As early as the end of 1970s and the beginning of 1980s, influenced by the phonology of Chinese folk operas, especially in Northwest China, Qu Wenjun started his new exploration in performance and theory by combining the phonology of Rongsheng tune, Xianban and chuguan with the traditional techniques of pipa. After unremitting efforts, Pipa has finally presented a distinctive style of phonology, formed a complete set of line rhyme expression skills, and thus produced a large number of new Pipa works. Some of his works, such as Qinchuan lyric, xiaosuoqiuxi, yudiao, Qinfu and yafangyuan, have been included in the collection of Pipa music, published by the Chinese people's music publishing house and listed as Pipa teaching materials for colleges and universities at home and abroad. Some of his works have been listed as the repertoire of some overseas Pipa competitions. In 1985 and the New Works Concert of the national Pipa education seminar of music colleges and universities in China, his Pipa works attracted high praise and attention from the pipa circle.
