From being elected to being self elected
Wu Yuxia, who was born in an ordinary family in Shanghai, was selected by teacher Wei Zuguang of the children's palace when she was 10 years old and led to the door of music. If it is said that she was chosen to be attached to pipa, then she chose to be crazy about pipa. Although no one in her family has studied music for generations, she has matured her skills and deepened her artistic cultivation step by step through several hours a day and more than ten hours of hard practice and deliberation.
In 1977, Wu Yuxia was admitted to Beijing from Shanghai. In Beijing Dance Academy and Central Conservatory of music, she studied successively from Liu Dehai, Li Guanghua, Chen Zemin, Li Guangzu, Wu Guoliang, Wei Zuguang, Yang Chengye and Zhao Zhongda. In recent years, she has also studied works of different schools with famous artists such as Lin Shicheng and Wang Fandi. Under the artistic nourishment of her predecessors, after years of hard training and extensive learning, she has finally grown into an outstanding Lute Player with outstanding skills and unique style, and has formed her own unique artistic style.
Li Guanghua, Wu Yuxia's instructor and famous Pipa player, once commented: "Yuxia's performance is sometimes like water and ink, the fainter it gets, the more silent it becomes. It's like an antelope hanging a horn without trace, showing a strong cultural charm. This is exactly where Yuxia's performance is different from that of her contemporaries and is inferior to that of her peers." And her artistic pursuit of "light dazzle technology, heavy realm" has also been recognized on and off the stage. When she performed in Taiwan for the first time in 1992, the Taiwan media praised her highly: "playing Pipa melody has gone beyond the stage of only focusing on pipa playing skills and beautiful melody, and has entered the core of Pipa melody, exploring the inner world of the protagonist in the music. The skillful pipa playing skills can perfectly interpret that emotion, which is very touching and unforgettable to the listeners." As an outstanding contemporary Pipa player, Wu Yuxia often takes part in major performances at home and abroad, impressing countless audiences with her acting skills and rich passion and winning wide praise. Over the years, she has been performing in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Art Center, Golden Hall of Vienna, the Great Hall of the people in Beijing, and in Europe, Africa, Asia and America with the Central National Orchestra, spreading Chinese folk music all over the world.
As a performer, only by constantly communicating with the audience on the stage and serving the public with his own art, can his value be fully reflected. But in the period of social transformation, artists also face the test of values and outlook on life. Some people can't bear people's alienation from art, and their pursuit of art is gradually fading; others seem to forget the responsibility of artists and become very utilitarian. As a member of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and an artist with both virtues and arts, Wu Yuxia has always regarded serving the public and repaying the society as her own responsibility. For many years, she has actively participated in various performances of the orchestra and grass-roots performances with arduous conditions, such as three cultural trips to the countryside. She often said: "I have the responsibility to set an example for changing some quick success and bad habits in the literary and art circles, and I have the confidence to influence the people around me with my actions."
From improvement to innovation and development of Art
Wu Yuxia believes that the meaning of life lies in constant innovation. For many years, she resisted the temptation and disturbance of the outside world, and was absorbed in her own art world. In the day-to-day painstaking research, we constantly explore the sensitive and spiritual art tentacles, capture the beneficial elements that can add color to pipa, and make multi-level exploration and innovation on Pipa's repertoire, skills and style, so as to enter the free kingdom of Pipa art.
Wentan of Wuqu is another form of exploration that she transcends traditional aesthetics and makes old songs radiate new sound. Pipa can be divided into Wenqu and Wuqu in playing style. Bawang Jiejia is a famous Wuqu of pipa, which is based on the story of Xiangyu's life and death after his defeat in the Western Chu Dynasty. Wu Yuxia, as a woman, integrates her understanding of this tragic event into her unconventional performance techniques. In her performance, she combines the strength and boldness of Wuqu with the graceful, ethereal, gentle and delicate of Wenqu, which makes people who are used to listening to this famous song feel fresh and fresh. Tian Qing, a famous music critic, thinks: "Wu Yuxia's Pipa solo" Bawang Jiejia "can be said to be a representative of the classic traditional repertoire. Wu Yuxia is very sensitive and understands the principle of "Kung Fu is beyond poetry". She pays attention to absorbing artistic nutrition in many aspects off the stage and in her life, so that her performance has a profound cultural heritage, and her artistic temperament has a more and more "elegant" style. Her performance "Bawang Jiejia" is grand and majestic in its magnificence, subtle and subtle in its delicacy, rich in layers, strong in contrast and relaxed in its harmony, which has a great atmosphere. " Wu Yuxia said frankly: "tradition and rules also need to be constantly enriched and developed. I add the skills of Wenqu to Wuqu, that is, I hope to add the depiction of characters' personality and the description of characters' emotions in the narration of Wuqu, in order to enrich the expressive power of pipa."
Wu Yuxia also tried to perform the traditional Pipa repertoire through a new musical instrument combination to make the pipa performance art more hierarchical and personalized.
For example, most of the performers perform "send me a rose" in the form of Pipa solo, while Wu Yuxia performs it in the form of Pipa and tambourine. The original cheerful and bright style of pipa, set off by the masculine percussion music, highlights the feminine and graceful beauty, brings the audience a different artistic experience, and provides the audience with a better understanding of the music It provides a vast space for imagination.
It is another bold attempt of Wu Yuxia to make the West serve China. In 2007, Wu Yuxia added new combinations such as Pipa and zhongruan duet, Pipa and zhongruan and Cello trio, Pipa and bass, and New Zealand folk songs for percussion. The cooperation of different musical instruments expands the performance space of pipa, and also increases the affinity between folk music and foreign audiences; the use of Western chamber music forms such as trio, Fugue and improvisation organically integrates the characteristics of Pipa and other ethnic musical instruments, and some western music can enter Pipa's repertoire, promoting the complementarity between Chinese folk music and western music Blend with the world.
These seemingly "unruly" innovations by conservative people reflect Wu Yuxia's pursuit and achievements in expanding Pipa's artistic expression and developing Chinese folk chamber music.
In addition to inheritance and innovation, Wu Yuxia is also an enthusiastic promoter of new works. Her debut Pipa Concertos spring and autumn and random thoughts on the ancient road are both excellent Pipa music emerging in recent years, which have been highly praised by peers and experts.
From childhood to adulthood, I am responsible for the inheritance of folk music

She is also the director of China Musicians Association and the visiting professor of art education at Renmin University of China. Wu Yuxia has many social activities. However, in order to promote the sense of responsibility of national music, she always takes time to work around for the general music education and the cultivation of national music reserve talents: she has been in Peking University for one hundred years She has held dozens of popular concerts of "appreciation of Wu Yuxia's famous Pipa music" in the lecture hall, Renmin University of China, City University of Hong Kong, Sun Yat sen University of Guangdong, Nanjing University, Lanzhou University of technology, etc. for many years, she has been the director of Beijing Middle School Students' Jin Fan min Orchestra and Renmin University of China students' min Orchestra, and has cultivated many outstanding people who have won gold prizes in various Pipa competitions; For more than ten years, she has participated in the "open the door to music - summer series concerts" held for primary and secondary school students in Beijing almost every year, and every year she tries to have a new perspective.
