Luo Jiaying was born in a Cantonese Opera family. His fourth uncle, Luo Jiashu, was known as "the king of Da Luo". His father, Luo Jiaquan (Luo Shigan), was known as "the king of Zhou", while his cousin, Luo Jiabao, was known as "shrimp tune". Luo Jiaying's family has five brothers and sisters, the eldest son. He settled in Hong Kong with his father in 1949. At the age of eight, Luo Jiaying had followed his father Luo Jiaquan to learn the basic skills of Cantonese opera, and Luo Jiaquan himself learned from Liu kuiguan, a famous Peking Opera master. When Luo Jiaquan performed in Singapore and Malaysia, Luo Jiaying's twelve uncle Luo Jiahui taught basic skills. Later, Luo Jiaying learned from Wu Shaolian, pink chrysanthemum, Lu Guoquan, Li Wanchun and Liu Xun. At the age of 21, Luo Jiaying became a student of performing arts and martial arts. Since 1970, she has formed a number of troupes and started her career in Cantonese opera. She is also the founder of "Friends of Jiaying".
Hong Kong Cantonese opera has been declining since the 1970s, and the number of audiences has been declining. Luo Jiaying decided to take part in the film performance in 1991 for the sake of her life. At the beginning, he only played some ordinary supporting roles, and was not widely known until he took part in Stephen Chow's film series.
In 1994, Luo Jiaying made a deep impression on the audience when she played the role of "Da Wen Xi" in "domestic Lingling lacquer" starring Stephen Chow. Since then, Luo Jiaying has become popular, and has participated in the performance of funny films, some of which are Zhou Xingchi's films, such as "journey to the West: the one hundred and one return to the moonlight treasure box". He plays "Tang Seng" in both series. The two film opened the fame of Law Ka Ying in Chinese mainland, and later began to perform more in mainland China. Many people in Hong Kong are familiar with Luo Jiaying because of his friendship with Wang Mingquan. In particular, Wang's frequent performances in Cantonese opera have increased the cooperation between Wang and Luo.
In October 2005, the art museum and Music Department of the University of Hong Kong held an exhibition for Luo Jiaying entitled "Xiangjiang Pear Garden: Luo Jiaying, a student of Cantonese opera.". From October 15 of that year to January 8 of the following year, the exhibition reviews Luo Jiaying's 50 year career in Cantonese opera stage. The exhibits include Luo Jiaying's precious pictures, costumes, headgear, props, shoes, etc., and a collection of his life is published.
On July 1, 2018, the bronze Bauhinia Star was awarded to artist Luo Jiaying and movie queen Hui Yinghong to praise Luo Jiaying for her outstanding artistic achievements and her commitment to inheriting, promoting and developing Hong Kong's Cantonese opera. She has more than 60 years of experience in Cantonese opera performance and actively imparts it to young Rookies, contributing a lot to the development of Cantonese opera.

Luo Jiaying's first marriage ended in just three years because both parties had not enough psychological preparation for family life and could not bear the weight of marriage.
In April 1987, the director of the Cantonese Opera "Mu Guiying vs. Hongzhou" invited Luo Jiaying to play the leading actor Yang Zongbao and the heroine Wang Mingquan. They met and fell in love.
In May 2002, Wang Mingquan suffered from breast cancer and thyroid cancer. In 2004, Luo Jiaying was found to have liver cancer. Wang Mingquan accompanied Luo Jiaying to undergo liver cancer surgery in Hong Kong. The operation was successful and the cancer did not spread. Wang Mingquan's cancer is in the early stage. After the lesion was removed, the cancer cells did not spread. The doctor said that after a period of rehabilitation treatment, she could work and live normally. But the fear of cancer still makes Wang Mingquan depressed. Luo Jiaying uses her decades of life experience to do "spiritual gymnastics" for her. In February 2005, Luo Jiaying was discharged from hospital and returned home for recuperation. Wang Mingquan put down his work and took care of Luo Jiaying wholeheartedly.
On May 2, 2009, Luo Jiaying and Wang Mingquan registered for marriage in Las Vegas, ending the 21 year long love run.
Recurrence of liver disease
On February 14, 2014, it was reported that Luo Jiaying's liver disease worsened. Luo Jiaying explained the condition in person, saying that at the end of 2013, a 2cm tumor was found in the left liver, which had been resected, and it was the same as 10 years ago (2004). He stressed that it's not diffusion or metastasis, it doesn't need radiotherapy or chemotherapy, and it's easier to recuperate. After he was discharged from the hospital, he was treated at the cancer rehabilitation center, waiting for recovery.
On October 21 of the same year, Luo jiayinglu attended the activity and revealed that she was in good health, but she may have loosened her vocal cords during the operation. Now she has to relearn her speaking skills.

In 2011, Luo Jiaying suffered from facial paralysis when she appeared in "Cha Wu Ren Ren Ren". Luo Jiaying even had only half a face to move.
