Historical evolution
Pingyuan county was established in 1562, the 41st year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty. At that time, taking the Haoju capital (now renju town) in Chengxiang County of Guangdong Province as the center, and analyzing Wuping and Shanghang in Fujian Province, Anyuan in Jiangxi Province, and Xingning in Huizhou Prefecture of Guangdong Province, based on the original site of linziguantongduanfu in Haoju capital, the city was built and the county was built. Because of its boundary between Wuping and Anyuan, it is named "Pingyuan". At the beginning, it was attached to Ganzhou Prefecture in Jiangxi Province.
In the 43rd year of Jiajing reign of Ming Dynasty (1564), the county was adjusted and returned to Wuping, Shanghang and Anyuan counties of Fujian and Jiangxi provinces. The three capitals of Yihua, Changtian and grottoes of Chengxiang and daxinyili of Xingning Yuanxi were added to form Pingyuan County, which was subordinate to Chaozhou Prefecture of Guangdong Province.
In the seventh year of Chongzhen (1634) of the Ming Dynasty, the first and second pictures of Pingyuan grottoes and some parts of Chengxiang were analyzed, and Zhenping county (now Jiaoling) was added.
In 1733, Chengxiang county was upgraded to Jiaying prefecture (today's Meizhou). Pingyuan county was changed to Jiaying Prefecture, which was called five Jiaying genera together with Chengxiang County, Xingning County, Changle County and Zhenping county.
After the founding of the Republic of China, the original system was abolished, and a new road was set up between provinces and counties. In 1914, chaoxun was set up and Pingyuan was one of the subordinate counties. In 1920, Pingyuan directly belonged to the province.
In August of the 25th year of the Republic of China, Guangdong and Guangdong returned to the central government. Guangdong abolished the appeasement district and set up nine administrative supervision districts. Pingyuan was the Sixth District. In 1949, it was transferred to the ninth administrative supervision district.
On May 22, 1949, Pingyuan declared its peaceful liberation. In October of that year, after the founding of the people's Republic of China, the system of commissioner's office was still followed between provinces and counties in the period of the Republic of China. As a provincial agency, Pingyuan led the county, and Pingyuan was subordinate to Xingmei Commissioner's office. In 1952, Xingmei special office was abolished and transferred to eastern Guangdong administrative office. In 1956, the eastern Guangdong administrative office was abolished and divided into Huiyang District and Shantou district. Pingyuan was subordinate to Shantou district. In 1965, Xingmei district and Chaoshan District were set up separately, and Pingyuan district was subordinate to the administrative office of Meixian district. In 1988, the administrative office of Meixian County was changed into a municipal government organization, which was called Meizhou city. Pingyuan was subordinate to Meizhou city.
In May 1951, Daxin township was under the jurisdiction of Xingning county. In January 1956, huangzhuping village, Shifan Township, Meixian County was designated as Rezhe Township, Pingyuan. So far, all the counties belong to Yuancheng township. County seat, from 1562 to 1952 390 years, has been in renju town (Ming Dynasty called Haoju). In June 1952, Pingyuan worked with Jiaoling to lead the land reform. In August, the people's Government of Guangdong Province wrote: "Pingyuan will be merged into Jiaoling County" and "the name of Pingyuan county will be retained". The county government is not in Jiaocheng town. In March 1954, Pingyuan and Jiaoling were governed by different counties, and Pingyuan county government moved to Dazhe town. In November 1958, in order to meet the needs of "people's commune" and "great leap", Pingyuan was incorporated into Xingning County, and the county government was located in Xingcheng town. In January 1961, Xingping county was divided. Since then, Pingyuan county has been located in Dazhe town.
