Yu Shaoze
Yu Shaoze (1903-1988) was born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province in 1903.
Biographical information
Yu Shaoze is an outstanding Guqin educator and performer of Shu School in modern times. Yu Shaoze was admitted to a private school at the age of eight. At the age of seventeen, he was admitted to the Provincial College of foreign languages, specializing in English. After graduation, he worked as a middle school English teacher for sixteen years. He studied hard and loved music when he was young. He successively studied flute, erhu, Pipa and other musical instruments. At the age of 15, he joined his uncle Liao Wenfu to study Guqin. He got his true biography and continued to play Guqin all his life. He became a famous guqin artist of the Shu School. in the 1930s and 1940s, Mr. Yu was a well-known pianist in China. In addition to studying Guqin diligently, he also actively organized and participated in the activities of Guqin Association. In 1937, Yu brothers, Pei tiexia and others launched the "Chengdu lute club", and in 1947, they launched the "Xiuming lute club", which gathered together lute friends to promote the mutual exchange and learning of lute players. They received famous lute players such as Cha Fuxi, Hu Yingtang and Xu Yuanbai. In 1955, Mr. Yu recorded the music of Shu School for the national Qin people interview group of China Musicians Association led by Mr. cha. In 1956, Mr. Yu became a full-time Guqin teacher in Sichuan Conservatory of music, the first and only full-time Guqin teacher in the whole western region. In the same year, he took part in the first national music week as the only representative of the Qin family of Shu School. In 1960, he went to Xi'an Conservatory of music to teach Guqin. In 1962, he returned to Sichuan Conservatory of music to continue teaching. In 1963, he attended the first National Symposium on Guqin notation. During the meeting, the Central People's broadcasting station recorded his plays such as "running water" and "drunk fishing singing late". In 1979, Mr. Yu, who was already in his prime of life, once again established the "Jinjiang Piano Club" in Chengdu and served as its president, uniting his relatives to carry out the piano activities. In the 1980s, Mr. Yu was still trying his best to carry forward the art of Guqin in his old age. He recorded programs for radio and TV stations many times, taught lessons for foreign students, received Guqin lovers at home and abroad, and trained Guqin talents. His works such as lonely house meeting God, Youlan, Hujia eighteen Pai and Qiuhong have unique charm. He also created modern music such as joy, new year's Eve and missing.

Yu Shaoze's Guqin performance not only inherits the characteristics of Shu School guqin, but also forms his own steady and simple style. As a moral educator, he wrote many Guqin works based on his years of playing experience, won many awards, and cultivated many famous guqin players and pianists.
