Jiao Jinhai

Jiao Jinhai was born in Anyang, Henan Province in 1939. He studied under Cao Dongfu and graduated from the Central Conservatory of music in 1963. China's famous zither performer, zither composer, zither theory scholar, founder of Jiao school zither. He has been a zither soloist of the central broadcasting national orchestra and Hunan Radio and Television Art Troupe, a professor of Music Department of Xiamen University, a distinguished professor of Music Department of Hunan Institute of technology, vice president of China zither Association, and vice president of the zither society of China Musicians Association.

Due to his assiduous research, he has made outstanding achievements in guzheng performance, zheng music creation and Zheng theory description, and is well-known at home and abroad. Due to his unique performance style, rich composition music, and developed complete performance methods and theoretical practice, he has been paid more and more attention and studied by the overseas zither circles. In addition to being known as "Jiao school zither", he is also highly praised as a zither master who "learns from the past but not from the past, can modernize the traditional zither music and make it closely connected with the pulse of the times". He has composed more than 30 zither solos, such as "the red flowers of Shandan", "Dong dance music", "Furong spring morning" and "deep love on the Silk Road" (which won the award of the Ministry of Culture). Achievements and honors in 1987, he published the first monograph "Zheng playing method" in Beijing. He has published a number of academic papers on zheng music, such as research on the bitter music of Zheng music, on the tuning scale of Zheng music, the instrument of benevolence and wisdom, Zheng and Zheng Ranye, etc. (in 1998, the number of papers on the subject of "art" ranked seventh in China). In 1965, he had been waiting for Daduhe record company to record his "Daduhe record". In 1979, he recorded China's first box of Zheng cassette "spring over the Lijiang River". Jiao Jinhai has been invited to hold recitals in Guangzhou, Fuzhou and Nanchang, and has visited Singapore, Canada, the Philippines, Hong Kong and other countries and regions for more than 20 times. In March 1987, at the invitation of Singapore culture and Art Center, he performed two guzheng recitals in Singapore; in September of the same year, he was invited to hold a recital at the Hong Kong City Hall; and in November, he took part in a Chinese musician delegation to perform in the Philippines. In September 1992, he was invited to perform his zither "channel suite" in Hong Kong. In March 1993, at the invitation of the all China Federation of trade unions of Singapore, a recital was held in the Great Hall of Singapore. In August 1994, he held "Jiao Jinhai Zheng music concert" in Hong Kong. In January 1999, he was invited to perform his "deep love on the Silk Road" in Hong Kong. "Jiao Jinhai Zheng music concert" was held in Hong Kong in September 2000. He solo and premiered his own Zheng music "dream song". In June 2001, he was invited to perform a solo and Ensemble Concert of Guzheng for two in Calgary, Canada. In August 2002, he was invited to perform his composition Baiyun Jiyu in Hong Kong. In February 2004, he was invited to perform solo at the "Chinese zither masters concert" in Macao. In May 2005, he was invited to perform solo in the concert of "Zheng master Zhou Yanjia, Jiao Jinhai, Su Zhenbo and Wang Zhongshan". The above visit was a sensation and highly praised. In March 1998, he was invited to give lectures at the Central Conservatory of music and hold a "teaching report concert". In October 2001, he was invited to be the judge of the international guzheng competition in Beijing. He was invited to be the director of the expert committee of the 2002 international Zheng music Symposium in Nanjing, China. In August 2004, he was employed as the deputy director of the academic committee of the fifth national academic exchange of Chinese guzheng art sponsored by China Musicians Association and other units. In November 2005, he was invited to be the judge of the second round and final of the "fifth Golden Bell award of Chinese music (Performance Award) National guzheng competition" sponsored by China Federation of literary and art circles and China Music Association in Guangzhou. For many years, he has been pursuing new development, new creation, new theory and new performance skills in Zheng art. It has made remarkable achievements in following the pulse of the times and deeply expressing the content and theme of music thoughts. It has set an example and a typical role for the major topic concerned and discussed by China's zither music circle how to adapt to the new requirements and create a new sound in the new century. Jiao Jinhai has been in Xiamen for 27 years. He has been invited to perform overseas for 30 times. He is famous at home and abroad, but he has never held his own music performance in Xiamen. He is a famous guzheng master, vice president of Guzheng society of China Music Association, and professor of Art College of Xiamen University. On December 22, 2012, Professor Jiao Jinhai will make up for the regret of the past 27 years and hold a "concert of Jiao Jinhai's Zheng music works" at Xiamen University, which is known as a feast for the guzheng industry in China.
