Early experience
Ang Lee was born in Pingtung County, Taiwan Province, China in 1954. When he was two years old, his family moved to Hualien. When he was ten years old, he settled in Tainan and studied in Yanping middle school. In 1969, he entered Tainan No.1 middle school. In 1972, Ang Lee graduated from Tainan No. In 1973, he passed the junior college examination and entered the film and Drama Department of National Taiwan University of Arts. Personal life
Li's father, Li Sheng, was born in De'an County, Jiangxi Province. He was the county magistrate of Chongren County, Jiangxi Province. He moved to Taiwan in 1949 and served as the principal of Tainan No.2 Middle School and Tainan No.1 middle school. He died in 2004. Ang Lee's mother is Li Yang Sizhuang. Ang Lee also has a younger brother, Li Gang, who is a director and screenwriter.
On August 19, 1983, Ang Lee and Lin Huijia (Ph.D. in microbiology, University of Illinois, USA, formerly professor of research department, New York Medical School) married in New York.
