He has taught in Vanderbilt University, Yale University and other schools, and also engaged in the creation of Southern Review Magazine. During his study at Vanderbilt University, he established close ties with the "New Critics". His early biography, John Brown: the birth of the martyrs (1929), showed his interest in the south. In 1930, he and more than 10 scholars jointly published an article entitled "I want to show my attitude", which is known as the declaration of "Southern physiocratic school". Warren first became famous for his poetry and won many prizes. His works include thirty six poems (1935), eleven poems on the same theme (1942), selected poems, 1923-1943 (1944), brothers of the Dragon (1953), promise, 1954-1956 Poems (1957), etc. He is famous for his vivid metaphor and beautiful description, and full of Kentucky local flavor. Warren is one of the "Southern physiocrats" who has made remarkable achievements in the field of fiction. Some critics think that he is the most important southern novelist after Faulkner. His first novel, night riding (1939), was about the struggle between Kentucky farmers and tobacco companies. Warren's most popular novel, the king's men (1946), won a Pulitzer Prize and was adapted into a film. The main character of the novel is Willy stark, the governor of Louisiana, who later became the "dictator" of the evil party. Critics believe that Stark is a real character, the embodiment of politician Huey Long. Enough space and time was published in 1950.

to comment
The rhythm of the old sailor (1946) is one of Warren's literary criticism articles. His Book Understanding Poetry (1938), CO edited with K. Brooks, makes a rigorous and thorough analysis of poetry. It is the most influential teaching material of poetry in the United States so far. He is the main force of the "New Critics" and Allen. Tate and others inherited Eliot's "impersonal" poetic theory. He thinks that the object of literary criticism is concrete works, and advocates the isolated and detailed study of concrete works, including form, structure and rhetorical devices. This method of criticism dominated the literary teaching of American critics and universities for a period of time.
