Figures and achievements
Dong Zhen (1708) is a native of Haining, Zhejiang Province. In 1704, he was the magistrate of Xihe. At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, Xihe suffered from repeated wars. In the early years of Kangxi, Wu Zhimao invaded Xihe many times, resulting in the collapse of the city wall and the destruction of the government offices, schools and warehouses. Turbulent officials run rampant, and the people are in dire straits. When Dong Zhen was in office, he saw that the county office was located in Shangcheng, where the land was narrow and the road was narrow, and the water source was insufficient. It was very inconvenient to accept taxes and trade. In 1604, the imperial court donated money to start work, repaired the lower city, extended the city wall to the south, built city buildings, opened the south gate, and changed the South Street to Nanguan. The temple was moved to Wencang and built in the county. In the winter of 1605 ad, the repair was completed, the hall was huge and the temple was new. Dong Zhen made use of her spare time to teach in person and cultivate talents. To this end, she founded two free schools, one in the county named "Leying hall" and the other in Yanguan town named "Tingxian hall". The land of "Tingxian hall" was built by donating Dai money to sell several Mu of land. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Xihe cangao was mostly destroyed, and most of the public grain was sent to the families of large families, but it could not be returned for a long time. They also colluded with corrupt officials and swallowed the cream of the people. Dong Zhen corrected the officials, punished the corrupt officials who were greedy for food, punished the evil gentry who did not spit food, and got rid of the long-standing malpractice of sending food to the "people" by Xihe. As a result, they violated the interests of local powers. They filed a complaint against the emperor for Dong Zhen's enclosure and conspiracy. Kangxi 24 years (1685) had a decree "since never enclosure.".
Resist the attack
The rebellion touched the pain point of Kangxi. At that time, the domestic anti Qing movement had not yet subsided. It was located in Xishui. There was a suspicion of "rebellion" and the crime was unforgivable. So he ordered the Ministry of punishment to sentence Dong Zhen to be executed on the spot for treason. In 1707, the Ministry of punishment sent officers to Xihe to execute the sentence. Dong Zhen sighed and drew her sword. All her family members killed themselves. Only one baby was carried to the city by a wet nurse and raised. In the first year of Yongzheng (1723), Dong Zhen was given snow. He was unable to be buried in the empty chamber. In 1772, at the request of the local people, Qiu Daying, the county magistrate, presided over the construction of a memorial tablet on the south side of Ningxi Temple (today's Procuratorate site). In 1927, the people donated money to rebuild the Dong Gong temple.
