Jinbo, formerly known as Wang Jinbo and pseudonym Jinbo, was born in 1935. His ancestral home is Jixian County, Hebei Province (now Jizhou city, Hebei Province). He graduated from the Chinese Department of Beijing Normal University in 1961. He has successively served as professor of Beijing Normal University, member of children's literature Committee of China Writers Association, director of Beijing Writers Association and director of children's literature creation Committee. His works began to be published in 1957. He joined the Chinese Writers Association in 1979.

He has won the national excellent children's literature award of China Writers Association for five times.
