Tong Zhiling

Tong Zhiling (August 21, 1922 - July 6, 1995), born in Tianjin, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, is a famous Peking opera performing artist, Peking Opera actress and GongDan.

Tong Zhiling is the fourth elder sister of Tong Xiangling, a famous Peking opera performing artist. Together with her second elder brother, Tong Shouling, her fourth elder sister, Tong Zhiling and her fifth elder sister, Tong Baoling, Tong Xiangling made the "children's class" famous in Peking Opera.

Tong Zhiling has a wide way to play, informal, delicate performance and good at portraying characters. Her voice is sweet and charming, and her singing is full of both voice and emotion. In her singing style, she takes the bright and beautiful of "Xun school" as the keynote, appropriately blends the elegant and luxurious of "Mei school" and the implicit and euphemistic of "Cheng School", and has delicacy in bold and unconstrained, and dignified in soft and charming, which makes her feel fresh and unique. Her recitation skills are profound, emotional, rhythmic and touching. Her performance is unconventional, and she is good at combining the use of traditional skills with the characterization of characters to create a variety of women with different personalities. She has always been praised by the world for her versatility and extraordinary talent.

Her father loves Peking Opera very much. Influenced by her family, Zhiling can perform nvqijie at the age of 11. Later, he performed with Bai Jialin, Gao Shenglin, Li Shengbin and others in Tianjin. In 1939, he took Xun Huisheng as his teacher and asked Wang Yaoqing about his art. In 1940, Li shengzao went to Shanghai to perform with her. He has cooperated with Lin Shusen, Tang Yunsheng and Gao Baisui for a long time. Later, he took Mei Lanfang as his teacher.
