Huang Yuqian

Huang Yuqian (1935-september 29, 2018), male, born in Japan, is a world-famous harmonica player. My father was a student sent by the Chinese government to Japan at that time. After graduating from primary school, my family came to Shanghai from Hong Kong to settle down. After work, he worked as an economist and auditor in a state-owned enterprise, and worked on Harmonica activities and education in Shanghai's major, secondary and primary schools. Before birth, he was a member of China Musicians Association, director of the public harmonica society and head and conductor of the Yu Garden Harmonica Orchestra.

On September 29, 2018, Huang Yuqian died of massive cerebral hemorrhage in Shanghai Renji Hospital at the age of 83.

Huang Yuqian was born in Japan in 1935. His father was a student sent to Japan by the Chinese government at that time. After graduating from primary school, his family came to Shanghai from Hong Kong to settle down.

Huang Yuqian's obsession with harmonica was influenced by his elder brother, who was the apprentice of Shi RenWang, one of the early famous Harmonists. When he was 9 years old, after his brother finished practicing, he secretly took the harmonica, wiped it, and began to "entertain himself.". So far, we have embarked on a "road of no return".

During his seven years in the army, he organized the army's first harmonica team, which was his first time to participate in harmonica music activities. After work, I went to Shanghai Conservatory of music for further study at my own expense in my spare time. The road of playing harmonica has never been broken. Since 1977, he has been practicing harmonica with harmonica lovers in the community from time to time, but there is no fixed place. By 1981, there were already more than 20 people in the team, and no matter where they were loaded, they applied to the relevant departments and formally established the Yu Garden Harmonica Orchestra with the approval of the government.

The Yu Garden Harmonica Orchestra has gone through 30 spring and Autumn Periods. This team of over 40 players is the oldest 82 years old and the youngest is 16 years old. Many members have won various awards in the international and domestic harmonica competitions in Japan, Korea and Singapore. Among the main orchestras of nearly 10 people, more than half of them have played harmonica for 30 or 40 years.

Before his death, Huang Yuqian worked as an economist and auditor in state-owned enterprises. They are mainly engaged in harmonica activities and harmonica education in Shanghai's major, secondary and primary schools. He has been invited to perform and give lectures in Singapore, Japan, the United States, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
