Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is an important airport in China. There are 20 airlines operating more than 150 routes in the airport, and more than 400 flights take off and land at the airport every day. In 2009, the passenger throughput reached 15.29 million, which is the fastest growing airport among the top ten airports in China. Xi'an Xianyang International Airport Phase II expansion project started in March 2009 with a total investment of 10.391 billion yuan. A 3800 meter long and 60 meter wide second runway and parallel taxiway will be built on the south side of the existing runway to make the flight area meet the 4f standard and be able to take off and land A380 and other super large intercontinental aircraft. The newly built terminal 3, with an area of 253000 square meters, is four times the size of the existing terminal. After completion, the newly built terminal 3 will be integrated with the existing terminal 1 and terminal 2, and there will be ferry cars to and from the terminal to facilitate the transfer of transit passengers. The integrated transportation between the terminals will be realized.

Railway

Xi'an railway station is the largest railway hub in Western China, connecting Longhai, Xikang, Ningxi, Baoxi, Houxi, Xiantong and Xihu railway lines. Xi'an railway station is not only one of the special passenger stations in China, but also an important station of Eurasia Continental Bridge in China. Trains from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chongqing to Lhasa must pass through Xi'an railway station. Xi'an north railway station was officially put into operation on January 11, 2011. It is the largest railway station in Asia and the largest in China. Zhengzhou-Xi'an high-speed railway has been opened to traffic, Xi'an and Zhengzhou have entered the two-hour economic circle, xi'an-baotou passenger dedicated line and Da Xi'an high-speed railway are stepping up construction, and have been completed and opened to traffic in July 2014.

The highway construction has formed a high-grade "meter" shaped radial trunk highway system with Xi'an as the center and nine national expressways converging here, connecting the whole province and radiating the surrounding provinces and cities. There are more than 2800 kilometers of highways and six national trunk highways passing through. The ring expressway and the new airport line have been built, the second ring road and the third ring road have been fully connected, and all expressways have been opened in the urban area and the counties under its jurisdiction.

The first phase of Xi'an Metro Line 2 was officially started on September 29, 2006, and has been put into operation at 14:00 p.m. on September 16, 2011. The construction of line 1 started on October 29, 2008 and was opened to traffic in September 2013. Xi'an has become the first city with metro rail transportation in Northwest China.
