In the book of changes, there is a saying that "the dance of drum is to do its best", which not only vividly reflects the long history of Chinese encouragement, but also outlines its main functions. From the original "beating the stone, supporting the stone and leading a hundred animals to dance" to the later generations, the Chinese drum dance has always been in the same continuous line. There are various forms of Chinese drum dance, which are widely distributed. There are many kinds of dances. Among them, the more typical forms are waist drum dance, broken drum dance, flower drum dance, wood drum dance, long drum dance, flat drum dance, copper drum dance, dragon drum dance, fan drum dance, yellow mud drum dance, elephant foot dance, monkey drum dance, flower whip dance, bamboo drum dance, Bell Dance, sheep skin dance and so on.
Chenguan short ear flower drum is a unique folk dance, which is popular in Chenguan Township, Guangrao County, Dongying City, Shandong Province and Shanghe county. In the Qing Dynasty, Zhang Hongxiang and Zhang Hongguo from Chenguan village, Chenguan Township, Guangrao County followed their father, Zhang Yanshui, to escape from famine and beg for food. In this process, they gradually learned to play flower drum. According to Zhang Fengyun, Li Xiping and other veteran artists in Shanghe County, Wang Lili, Wang Liyi brothers and Guangrao artists, who made a living by selling songs, learned and mastered the skills of playing flower drum when they wandered to Beijing in 1903, and then spread this form of performance to the lower reaches of the yellow River in Guangrao and Shanghe.
Chen Guan's short spike flower drum is performed by one person playing cymbals, talking and singing, and one person beating drums. The movements are open and unrestrained. He pays attention to "playing field, feet slightly bumping, Eight Legged bow and arrow.". The drum is as light as an immortal. There are thirty or forty routines in drumming, such as Zhang Fei cheating horses, Su Qin carrying sword and so on. Now it is a breakthrough for one person to sing or two people to sing, and many people accompany it with gongs and cymbals. Representative repertoire includes "string Kyushu", "pillow" and so on.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the party and the government attached great importance to Chen Guan's short ear flower drum. After processing and refining, it was put on the stage, making this folk dance become an art instead of a begging method in the past. In 1956, Li Hongyuan, Zhang Yanshui's apprentice in Guangrao, Zhang Fengyun and Li Xiping of Shanghe County, participated in the folk art performance of Shandong Province and won the prize. Zhang Yi, a folk artist, specially went to Chen Guanxiang to learn short ear flower drum. Her performance flower drum won the gold medal at the sixth youth festival in 1957.
Chen Guan's short ear flower drum expresses his pursuit of a happy life with drum singing. It has unique local customs and is the representative of local traditional culture. It has the research value of Anthropology and folklore.
Chen Guan's short ear flower drum movement is difficult, so it is not popular. In recent years, due to the change of cultural and ecological environment, Chen Guan's short ear flower drum is facing a serious survival crisis, lack of talents, weak inheritance, and urgent need of protection and support.
