Applicant: Tianmen City, Hubei Province
Tianmen folk songs are mainly spread in Jianghan Plain, Tianmen, Mianyang (Xiantao), Qianjiang, Hanchuan, Honghu, Zhongxiang, Jingshan, Yingcheng and other counties and cities in the Han River Basin.
Tianmen folk song is an important branch of Chu Music. Its lyrics have the characteristics of elegance and novelty of ancient Chu Ci. Its music has the characteristics of "eight tones" of Chu Music. It also contains the regional characteristics of Jianghan Plain. It is the mother of many arts in Tianmen and even the whole Jianghan Plain. It gives birth to the four main tunes of Jingzhou Huagu opera, namely, high tune and gonging tune. Its minor tune becomes the singing tune of geqiang shadow play and the fixed tune of diezi Xiaoqu and sanbang drum.
At present, more than 840 traditional Tianmen folk songs have been collected. The content involves religion, history, labor, life, love and so on. The genres are divided into six categories: Haozi, Tiange, Xiaodiao, dengge, religionary song and children's song. The theme song "Honghu Red Guards" is adapted from Tianmen folk songs "Xianghe ballad" and "yuewanglang". Traditional folk songs such as "song of happiness", "little son-in-law" and "collecting cucumbers" are still widely sung. In 2009, Tianmen folk song "happy song", as a representative work of Hubei folk song, was included as the national music appreciation teaching material by "ordinary high school curriculum standard experimental textbook · music".
From the early days of the founding of new China to the early 1980s, a group of artists represented by Jiang Guiying, a famous singer in Hubei Province, sang Tianmen folk songs in Hubei and Beijing, and performed in Zhongnanhai many times. Tianmen folk songs almost became the synonym of Hubei folk songs.
