Brief introduction of gongs and drums in South Shanxi
Applicant: Linfen City, Shanxi Province
Linfen was the capital of Yao in ancient times and Pingyang in the world. It is one of the birthplaces of 5000 year splendid culture of the Chinese nation. As a kind of folk gongs and drums art, Weifeng gongs and drums not only have a long-term historical origin, but also have a broad mass base in Linfen.
The earliest name of Weifeng gongs and drums is "gongs and drums", commonly known as "guys", mainly distributed in Linfen City and Huozhou, Hongdong, Fushan and other counties. In the long development process, prestige and gongs and drums draw on the essence of art in different times to make themselves perfect.
There are two main forms of performance of Weifeng gongs and drums: one is the performance of carrying drums, which is performed by drummers carrying a round drum in most places of Pingyang; the other is the performance of shelf drums, which is mainly popular in Fushan County, with few changes in formation during the performance and playing while walking. Due to the changes of inheritance and regional differences, Weifeng gongs and drums have formed two schools of Hedong and Hexi. The common repertoire are Qipai, niuyaozi, luanruma, fengnaoxue, yinzhuosi, daochuiyan, etc.
Weifeng gongs and drums is a kind of percussion art form played by gongs, drums, cymbals and cymbals. It is rich in content and various in forms, integrating music, dance and skills. The strong and vigorous posture, bold and unconstrained character and vigorous momentum of the performers of Weifeng gongs and drums embody the bold and unconstrained character of the northern men living on the Loess Plateau. In the study of folklore, history, sociology and aesthetics, Weifeng gongs and drums show important value.
