Tibetan medicine has a history of nearly 2300 years. It is a complete theoretical system, unique treatment methods and strong national characteristics medical system formed by Tibetan people through long-term practice and continuous accumulation and improvement. Ganzi is one of the birthplaces of Tibetan medicine and the hometown of southern Tibetan medicine.

In history, Tibetan medicine centered on Kangba was called Southern Tibetan medicine. Kangba region includes Ganzi Prefecture in Sichuan, Diqing Prefecture in Yunnan, Changdu Prefecture in Tibet and Yushu prefecture in Qinghai, with a total area of 550000 square kilometers.

From the 12th to 15th century, the northern Tibetan medicine represented by Xiang balangjiazasan and the southern Tibetan medicine represented by sukaniang nidoji came into being. Southern Tibetan medicine was inherited and developed by Tibetan medicine experts such as jiebazeong, Sakyamuni Wangqiu, the fifth Dalai Lama, dammenran balousang Qupi, etc. until siduke jijilie, the southern and Northern Tibetan medicine gradually merged into one, and southern Tibetan medicine once became the backbone of Tibetan medicine, leading the inheritance and development of the whole Tibetan medicine. In the early 19th century, the Southern School of Tibetan medicine, represented by Jiayang, Qingze, jiangbu and others, made an unprecedented development in Tibetan medicine.
