Suzhou calligraphy and painting mounting art originated from the Southern Song Dynasty, and gradually turned from Royal mounting to folk mounting. Suzhou is the birthplace of national mounting, and influenced by it, it radiates all over the country and overseas. Beijing, Shanghai, Yangzhou, Shandong and other areas in China are greatly influenced by Suzhou, and overseas Chinese gather in Japan, Southeast Asia and abroad.
Mounting art has reached a certain level from Tang Dynasty to Northern Song Dynasty, which is known as "Xuanhe decoration". After Xuande of Ming Dynasty, many famous painters and calligraphers emerged in Wuzhong, and their focus gradually shifted to Suzhou. Suzhou inherited the fine tradition of Mi Fu's time and was influenced by the scholars of Wumen painting school. In the following hundreds of years, the influence of Su mounting ranked first in the country, known as "Wu Costume".
The mounting of calligraphy and painting can be divided into three categories: the first is "Hongbang", which is simple in mounting style; the second is "Xingbang", which is specially used for mounting ordinary calligraphy and painting; the third is "antique decoration pool", which is specially used for decorating precious old and new calligraphy and painting for famous artists and collectors of learning from ancient times.
On the basis of mounting new paintings, the restoration of old calligraphy and painting has the following steps: bleaching, uncovering, washing, scraping, gluing alum, sticking straight strips, concealing and mending, full color and so on. And its mounting techniques evolved from the mounting styles of the Song Dynasty, all of which adopted "Xuanhe mounting".
Su mounting was influenced by Wumen painting school from Ming Dynasty, and formed its own unique artistic style in the long-term development process. Its main characteristics are "excellent selection of materials, elegant color matching, mounting and ironing, various styles, excellent mounting", which fully highlights the regional characteristics of Suzhou. Through mounting, new calligraphy and painting works can be displayed and appreciated, which fully embodies the painting and better displays the spirit of the works.
Through the restoration of ancient calligraphy and painting, the original appearance of calligraphy and painting works can be restored, and the traditional culture and art can be rescued, protected, continued and inherited. Later generations can intuitively understand the history, politics, economy, life and folk customs through the pictures. Because of its high combination with painting, calligraphy and culture, the influence of art and culture can continue and expand.
