Introduction to bronze carving techniques:
Applicant: Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province
Hangzhou bronze carving is a continuation of ancient bronze making. It developed greatly in the period of Wu Yue and Southern Song Dynasty, and reached its peak in the Qing Dynasty. It has a history of more than 1000 years. When Wuyue and the Southern Song Dynasty established their capitals in Hangzhou, a large number of copper craftsmen moved in, which made Hangzhou an important production area of copper crafts in China. Datong lane is the place where copper workshops are concentrated, and its place name has been followed up to now. After Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty, the bronze carving techniques in Hangzhou, represented by "Zhufu bronze art", became more and more mature. It has been handed down for about 130 years.
Hangzhou bronze sculpture combines traditional art with modern social life perfectly, and is highly praised by all walks of life. Its products cover architecture, sculpture, calligraphy, murals, interior decoration and so on. According to the variety, Hangzhou copper carving mainly includes copper tower, copper hall, copper bridge, copper boat, copper door, copper statue, etc. In production, traditional techniques such as hollowing out, inlaying, drying, green making, investment molding and point carving are applied in Hangzhou copper carving to achieve perfect artistic effect. The bronze halls of Leifeng Pagoda and Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, Tianning Temple Pagoda in Changzhou, Jiangsu, Daxiong hall in Mount Emei, Sichuan, ancestral temple in Jintan, Taichung, Taiwan, and large-scale copper reliefs "the Buddha subdues the devil" and "Xuanzang beg" are built with this traditional technique
"Fatu" and other representative works of Hangzhou copper carving are of high artistic value.
As a variant of Chinese bronze ware, Hangzhou bronze carving represents the advanced level of Chinese bronze art. This precious historical heritage can not be replaced by modern science and technology. At present, young people are reluctant to learn traditional bronze carving techniques because of the difficulty and long time. With the change of social life, daily necessities such as copper pots are gradually eliminated, and the production practice of copper carving is stagnant. In addition to the lack of scientific research on this excellent traditional handicraft, a series of production techniques such as gold inlay and overlapping inlay can no longer exist. Hangzhou copper carving art is in an endangered state, so it is very necessary to protect and rescue it.
