Ou sculpture is a kind of traditional sculpture art spread in Wenzhou area of Zhejiang Province. It is developed from Chinese traditional lacquer art, which is named after its origin in Oujiang River Basin in southern Zhejiang Province. During the Song Dynasty, Wenzhou used to be an important town of traditional lacquer art. The technique of stacking lacquer with pattern made of lacquer ash was quite popular in this area. It was widely used in the decoration of temples, dwellings, furniture and dowry. After the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there was a great development of lacquer stacking in Wenzhou, and three kinds of Ou plastic crafts, namely "yinqicuo gold", "yinqicuo lacquer" and "yinqicuo", were formed. Specifically, on the basis of lacquer stacking, gold was pasted, colored lacquer was painted and colored oil was painted. Since modern times, Wenzhou folk craftsmen have made many improvements in techniques and materials, and the artistic expression of Ou sculpture has been further strengthened. Ou sculpture in Wenzhou area after many years of inheritance, forming a distinctive regional characteristics. The advantages of rich color, expressive force and strong adhesion make it a widely used decoration method, which is favored by the local people.
