Introduction to nuclear carving (Guangzhou olive carving)
Applicant: Zengcheng City, Guangdong Province
Nuclear carving is a traditional folk craft of carving walnut shell and various kinds of core, which has been popular in North and South China for a long time. As early as the Neolithic age, China's carving technology has made great achievements, and nuclear carving is the further development of this technology. According to the description of the nuclear boat in the late Ming Dynasty, the nuclear carving technique has reached a very high level in the Ming Dynasty. Taking walnut shell, peach kernel, olive kernel, apricot kernel, cherry kernel and some other dense fruit kernels as raw materials, nuclear carving uses the natural shape and ups and downs of walnut shell or kernel, carving, carving, filing, chiseling, drilling and other techniques to carve various characters, flowers and birds, animals and insects, landscapes, boats, pavilions, etc. Folk nuclear carvings are often carved all over the body, with systematic layout, careful and rigorous, smooth and neat knife technique, vivid and subtle image, and no trace of carving. It can be said that the body is exquisite and superb, so as to win the reputation of "ghost Craftsmanship". The art of nuclear carving in Jiangsu, Shandong and Guangdong has formed a certain tradition in the process of long-term spread. The nuclear carving works have their own characteristics and have always been loved by the world.
Guangzhou olive carving is a traditional carving art popular in Zengcheng City, Guangdong Province. Its history can be traced back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The representative figures are Chen Zuzhang, a court craftsman from Guangzhou in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, and Zhan GUSHENG, a folk artist from Xintang in the Xianfeng Period. Wulan core is the basic material of Guangzhou olive carving. Zengcheng has been rich in Wulan since ancient times, which laid a material foundation for the formation and development of olive carving. Adhering to the spirit of Lingnan culture, Guangzhou LAN sculptors are exquisite, small and exquisite in shape, beautiful and elegant in shape, and smooth and vivid in lines. It can be divided into seat pieces, pendant pieces, string beads, nuclear boats and other categories, and its technical forms include relief, round carving, hollow carving and so on. The nuclear boat with the theme of "Dongpo's journey to Chibi" is a traditional style of rugby carving in Guangzhou, which has been handed down from generation to generation by famous artists. Since the middle of the 20th century, the blue carving in Guangzhou has been further developed, with more than 50 kinds of designs and colors. Some new varieties have appeared, such as multi-layer flower boat, tongdiao crab cage, fishing boat, chess and so on. Due to a large number of felling of Bruguiera rugosa, the shortage of materials for Bruguiera rugosa and the low output value, the large-scale production of Bruguiera rugosa is no longer in existence. In this situation, the development of blue carving in Guangzhou is sluggish and the prospect is worrying, so it is urgent to take measures to strengthen the protection.
