Introduction to jade carving (Yangmei jade carving)
Applicant: Jieyang City, Guangdong Province
Yangmei jade carving is a kind of folk jade carving technique in Guangdong Province. It rose in the early 20th century and spread around Yangmei village, Pandong Town, Dongshan District, Jieyang City. Yangmei jade carving technology is developed from the old jade processing technology, and has become the local economic pillar, forming a huge industrial chain. Yangmei jade carving materials are exquisite. The products are mainly made of high-quality jade from Myanmar's North Yeren mountain area (pagan jade quarry) and domestic products. These raw materials are crystal clear and of high hardness. Yangmei jade carving is good at making use of the natural texture of jade. It emphasizes strangeness, cleverness, precision and specialty. It is small and exquisite in shape, lifelike and vivid. The carving is exquisite and skilled. The jade products are like natural products. China's jade carving art is divided into two styles: the north and the south. Yangmei jade carving belongs to the "southern school", which has many techniques and styles, such as relief carving, three-dimensional carving, floor supporting carving, hollow carving, water mixing carving and so on. In the process of skill formation, Yangmei jade carving was influenced by Chaoshan wood carving, stone carving, Chaoxiu and other local folk traditional crafts to varying degrees, showing distinctive Lingnan local characteristics.
Wood carving is a kind of folk craft for carving on wood. It generally uses fine and tough wood, such as Phoebe, red sandalwood, camphor, cypress, Ginkgo biloba, agarwood, mahogany, longan, etc. as raw materials. It uses round carving, relief carving, openwork carving and other techniques for carving. Some also paint color on the surface of the finished product to protect and beautify the material of the work. Wood carving has existed in ancient China, and can be traced back to the Warring States period. In the early period, wood carving was mostly used in tribute production, statue molding and architectural decoration. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the production of wood carving ornaments and daily utensils made great progress, forming a variety of different styles rich in regional characteristics. At present, folk woodcarving mainly focuses on enjoyment and decoration, and pays attention to the aesthetic feeling of wood itself. When it is made, it is often shaped according to the situation, and according to the material, the modern concept is integrated into it on the basis of inheriting the tradition. Among all kinds of wood carvings, the sculpture of Macao deity has always adhered to the creative purpose of religious purpose, which is unique and eye-catching.
