Gaomi paper-cut spread in Gaomi area of Shandong Province, formed in Hongwu Period of Ming Dynasty. In the early Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang ordered to immigrate, and some people from Shanxi, Henan, Hebei, Jiangxi and other places moved to Gaomi. After a process of communication and integration, the folk artists in the immigration brought different styles of paper-cut art to Gaomi, and gradually formed a simple, rough, rich in the taste of gold and stone Gaomi paper-cut, which is unique in the national paper-cut art.

High density paper-cut is mainly used to make window flower, wall flower, ceiling flower, lamp flower, door paper, flower, dress flower, shoe flower and funerary flower. Its subject range is very wide. Myths and legends, historical stories, opera characters, flowers, birds, grass and insects are often the content of its performance. Gaomi paper-cut takes "Ba sample" and "Xun sample" as the main means of inheritance, and relies on the way of oral and psychological instruction from generation to generation.

Gaomi paper-cut enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad, and its representative works have been collected by China Art Museum and Shandong Art Museum. With Gaomi paper-cut as the content, many monographs, such as "local treasures", "folk treasures", "selected folk art of Gaomi", "Chinese folk paper-cut of the twelve zodiac animals" and "collection of qixiuhua paper-cut", have been published and won high praise from all walks of life.
