Introduction to Lanzhou GuZi

Lanzhou GuZi was formed and mainly popular in Lanzhou area of Gansu Province. It was a folk art form performed by Lanzhou dialect. It is said that the "songyangge" form spread in Gansu rural areas, which mainly sang "Dazao song" and "Qie Tiao", flowed into Lanzhou and performed in the form of Qingchang, forming Lanzhou GuZi in the middle and late Qing Dynasty. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, Lanzhou drum was influenced by the "single string octagonal drum" from Beijing and the "moustache" (Meihu) from Shaanxi. The form of performance is that many people sit and sing with Sanxian, Yangqin, pipa, Yueqin, huqin, Xiao, flute, etc. after walking on the high stage, one person plays xiaoyuegu by himself, and many others sing with Sanxian, Yangqin, pipa, Yueqin, huqin, etc. The music structure of Lanzhou GuZi aria belongs to the combination of tunes. There are more than 40 tunes commonly used for aria, such as "Po Er Xia", "Luo Jiang Yuan" and "Bian Guan Diao". For a long time, Lanzhou GuZi was mainly sung by amateurs, but few professional artists. Wang Yidao, Cao Yueru, Tang Jianghu, Ma Dongba, Zhang Guoliang, Lu Yingkui and other early famous Lanzhou GuZi singers. The content of its traditional programs is very wide, including long and medium-sized historical stories and folklores, and short sections of praising scenery and celebrating. There are two kinds of popular programs: boudoir song and hero song. The former includes farewell to the empress, torturing the red, Yingying farewell and monopolizing Huakui. The latter includes Wusong fighting the tiger, Linchong running at night and Yanqing challenging. There are also some works reflecting the negative thoughts of going out of the world, such as red world insight and Yuqiao Q & A. In the mid-1940s, Li Haizhou (1907-1983), an enthusiast of Lanzhou GuZi, organized the "drum Research Association of Nanshan society", which investigated and preserved a lot of artistic materials of Lanzhou GuZi. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Lanzhou GuZi began to go on the high stage, and some new programs appeared, such as Yang Zirong subduing the tiger, seizing Shanlan station, robbing the penalty truck, Han Ying meeting Niang and so on. Famous actors include Duan Shutang, Wang Ziying, Zhang Linyu, Wang Yalu and so on.

For a long time, the inheritance and development of Lanzhou GuZi has been in a state of spontaneous flow, with few artists and rare performances. It is urgent to take effective measures to support and protect it.
