Applicant: Qingfeng County, Henan Province
Liuzi opera is an ancient drama of string system, popular in Shandong, Henan, Northern Jiangsu, Southern Hebei and Northern Anhui. Liuzi opera in Qingfeng, also known as "baibeidiaozi", "liuziqiang" and "xianzixi", is a kind of local tune opera evolved from Beiqu Xianqiang in Yuan and Ming Dynasties. It is mainly spread in Qingfeng area of Henan Province.
During the Hongwu Period of Ming Dynasty, the Court Opera was introduced into Qingfeng County, and the singing music was mostly in the form of "North South integration". It combines with the local popular folk songs such as Liuzi, huangyinger, shanpo sheep, suonanzhi and shuaoer, and gradually forms Liuzi opera with the tune of Liuzi. This new type of drama has both the bold and bold style of Beiqu opera and the euphemistic and delicate characteristics of Nanxi opera. During the reign of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty, Liuzi troupes were all over the vast urban and rural areas of Qingfeng and Puyang, and there were Liuzi opera performances in the neighboring areas of Hebei, Shandong and Anhui.
There are more than 300 tunes in Liuzi opera, which can be divided into main tune and guest tune.
