The Eight Mile Bay Town, Gangu County, Tianshui, Gansu, is located in the Weibei arid mountainous area of the northern part of Gangu county. It is located next to the Jinshan Town, East and near the new town, West connected with Anyuan Town, north to dzhuang Town, northeast and West Ping Town, the area is 101.3 square kilometers, and in 2018, the registered residence population was 31296.
After 1949, jinjiawan township was established, belonging to Jinshan District. In March 1951, Baliwan township was established, belonging to Anyuan District. In 1972, the scope of the commune was adjusted and the name was changed to Baliwan commune. In 1983, it was changed to Baliwan township. In January 2017, the township was set up. As of June 2020, Baliwan town has 27 administrative villages.

Historical evolution
After 1949, jinjiawan township was established, belonging to Jinshan District.
In March 1951, Baliwan township was established, belonging to Anyuan District.
In August 1956, the township was withdrawn.
In October 1968, the three communes of Tangjiawan, dataping and zuituo were merged into Chaoyang commune.
In 1972, the scope of the commune was adjusted and the name was changed to Baliwan commune.
In 1983, it was changed to Baliwan township.
In January 2017, the township was set up.

Baliwan town is located in the extension of Qinling fold belt, which belongs to the Loess Liangdi gully area. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south.
