Historical evolution
Baima temple is a place name, but it is named for the temple.
According to Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty and Taizhou annals of the Republic of China, Baima temple is located in Baima Township in Southeast Taizhou and the hometown of Jiang Ziwen. According to the continued compilation of Taizhou chronicles, Jiang Ziwen was born in the countryside of southeast Taizhou by the river of Jiangjia in the Eastern Han Dynasty. He was a young man with ambition and good command of both literature and martial arts. Later, he joined the army and made many military achievements. He went to moling County, where he was wounded and died of chasing thieves and was buried in Zhongshan, Nanjing. After Jiang Ziwen's death, his former subordinates saw him on the road "riding a white horse, holding a white feather, and serving as a servant". They suspected that he had become a God, so they built "King Jiang Temple". In order to offer sacrifices to Jiang Ziwen, people in their hometown built the "white horse general temple", which has a history of more than 1800 years. In addition, according to Nanjing's old capital imprint, Zhongshan was known as "Jinling mountain" in the Warring States period and "Zhongshan Mountain" in the Han Dynasty. During the period of the Three Kingdoms, Sun Quan, Emperor Wu, made Jiang Ziwen the Marquis of Jiang. In order to avoid the name taboo of Sun Zhong, he changed Zhongshan into "Jiang Shan", and the temple of King Jiang was renamed Jiangshan temple. More than 1000 years later, Zhu Yuanzhang ascended the throne in Nanjing and took a fancy to Jiangshan temple. In the ninth year of Hongwu in the early Ming Dynasty, he used "100000 military workers" to prepare for the construction of Xiaoling Mausoleum and forced the monks of Jiangshan temple to move. He built another Linggu Temple at the east foot of Zhongshan Mountain and still worshipped the statue of Jiang Ziwen.
Sun Quan, the Wu Emperor, made Jiang Ziwen the Marquis of Jiang, and then added the title of "general Baituo" (commonly known as general Baima). Therefore, in the north and south of the east Wu Dynasty, "white horse general temple" was widely built to worship the statue of King Jiang, the white horse general. In addition to the temple, every family had the memorial tablet of "white horse general" or "white horse general army" for the purpose of expelling evil spirits and avoiding evil. This custom spread for more than 1000 years, formed the Baima religious folk culture, until the 1960s, it gradually faded and disappeared.
At the end of Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of Ming Dynasty, although Baima temple was called Baima general temple, it was only for the statue of King Jiang, but not for the statue of white horse. Later, the white horse statue was added to worship Zhang Shicheng, king of Suzhou. Baima temple was called Xujiazhuang in history. According to legend, Zhang Shicheng uprising at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, once stationed troops in Xujiazhuang area. Zhang Shicheng had a beloved horse, the white horse. He came out of the stable at night and trampled on the crops. After Zhang Shicheng discovered it, he taught people to nail the horse's hooves with nails. The local farmers felt that he was well disciplined, and later raised money to carve a white horse statue, which was worshipped in the white horse general temple. In Jianghuai and Wuyue areas influenced by Zhang Shicheng, king of Suzhou, white horse temples all over the country imitated Taizhou white horse general temple and added white horse statues.
Ancient Baima temple is related to Taiwei temple in Xinzhuang, Longchang temple in Wangzhuang, Guanyin Temple in Mazhuang and Qinglong temple in Lizhuang. One temple and four nunneries are full of incense and famous teachers. In 1936, on the third day of the sixth lunar month, on the Christmas day of Bodhisattva Weituo, master Ren De (commonly known as Li Dehai, born in Qiangang village, Baima Town, Gaogang District, Taizhou City in June 1926) was born from Taiwei. He was a member of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, vice chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Chinese Buddhist Association, President of the Anhui Buddhist Association, President of the Jiuhua Mountain Buddhist College, and 48th founder of the Jiuhua Mountain Zhiyuan temple Nunnery enters Buddhism.
In addition, according to the notes on retreating from an nunnery written by Xia Quan, a Taizhou scholar during the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty, during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, the Japanese invaders invaded northern Jiangsu, and Liu jingshao, the Deputy envoy of Huaiyang Daobing affairs, defeated the Japanese in Taizhou. "However, the heroic force of the Duke (Liu jingshao) killed the thieves to protect one side from God's help.". The white horse general temple adds a little respect to the people. During the Anti Japanese war in the last century, in order to fight against the Japanese aggressors, the Baima general temple in the north and south of the river was very popular. This was because the people prayed for the king of Jiang (general Baima) to show their gods and help them.
Before the place name was formed, Baima temple was built in the southeast of Xujiazhuang, with six main halls, six hall, six East chamber, two west chamber and corridor. First of all, the surname Xu was the main one. During the reign of emperor Ye Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty, the surname Wang rose, and the two surnames became the name of Zhuang. It is said that when the magistrate appealed to the county government, he asked: no matter how famous your two families are, can they be better than general Baima? So we proposed that Baima temple should be named Zhuang. From then on, the place names of Baimazhuang, Baima village and Baima Township appeared in Taizhou annals and Tai county annals.

History of the birthplace of the Navy
The birthplace of the PLA Navy is located in Baima temple, Taizhou city. There used to be a landlord's manor here. When the Chinese people's Liberation Army prepared to cross the river in 1949, the east line headquarters of the cross river campaign was set up here. On April 23, 1949, the first navy of the Chinese people's Liberation Army, the East China Navy, was established here. On February 17, 1989, the Central Military Commission officially decided that Taizhou Baima temple was the birthplace of the PLA Navy. The former site has been turned into a memorial hall. The battle room of the former headquarters and the bedrooms and offices of Su Yu, Zhang Aiping and Zhang Zhen have been restored. Revolutionary cultural relics and historical materials are displayed in the wing room and front hall. It is now one of the "national defense education bases for all in Jiangsu Province". When General Secretary Jiang Zemin visited Taizhou for the second time in 1998, he inscribed the name of the museum -- the memorial hall of the birthplace of the PLA Navy.
Baima temple is one of the old revolutionary base areas in Taizhou City, and it is also a milestone in the growth history of the PLA Navy. During the Anti Japanese War, the organization of the Communist Party of China was established in Baimamiao area. During the war of liberation, after the three major battles of Liaoshen, Huaihai and Pingjin, the Party Central Committee held the second plenary session of the Seventh Central Committee in time, and put forward various policies to promote the revolution to quickly win the national victory and organize this victory, further arming the whole Party and army.
On April 4, 1949, Su Yu and Zhang Zhen, the leaders of the third field army of the Chinese people's Liberation Army, under the order of the Central Military Commission, led their troops to the South and arrived at Baima temple in Taizhou city to set up the headquarters of the crossing river campaign in Wang's small building. On April 20, the Kuomintang government refused to sign a domestic peace agreement. On April 21, Chairman Mao Zedong and commander in chief Zhu De issued an order to march to the whole country. At the Baimamiao headquarters, Su and Zhang commanded the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th regiments of the eastern and Central Route Army to cross the Yangtze River and liberated Nanjing, the reactionary ruling center of the Kuomintang. As early as when the "three fields" went south, the Central Military Commission ordered the "three fields" to set up the navy of East China, and appointed Comrade Zhang Aiping as commander and political commissar. On April 23, the East China Navy was formed at the Baimamiao headquarters, marking the establishment of the people's navy.
In March 1989, the Central Military Commission designated "April 23" as the birthday of the PLA Navy, and Baimamiao as the birthplace of the Navy. Since then, baimamu of Taizhou city has been officially recorded in the glorious history of our army. After the liberation of the whole country, Baima Temple successively built Rongjun school, rehabilitation hospital, worker and farmer cadre school, Sucheng middle school and animal husbandry school
