Xinhua Township
Xinhua Township belongs to Huangshan District, Huangshan City, Anhui Province. It is located in the north of Huangshan District, connecting taohuatan town of Jing County in the East, Taiping Lake in the south, Yongfeng Township in the West and Xinfeng Township in the north. With a total area of 60.9 square kilometers, the township governs 4 villages and 47 villager groups, with a total population of 4458 (2017). The government is located in Dabao natural village.
Xinhua township is one of the key grain producing areas in Huangshan District, with national demonstration base of high quality grain, bamboo shoot base and efficient mulberry garden. The main scenic spots in the territory are Bagua Island, Houlu Island, Longyao village and Taiping building in Taiping Lake scenic area.
Evolution of organizational system
Before Tang Yongtai (765), the township was located in Jing County. During the Dali Period of Tang Dynasty (766-779), the three townships of Longmen in the southwest of Jing County were restored to Taiping County. During the Ming Dynasty, Taiping County was divided into nine townships, namely, Guicheng, Changshou, Jingyang and Longmen. Song and Yuan Dynasties were the same. In 1928, Taiping County was divided into five autonomous regions: Gantang, sankou, Guocun, Yangxi and Xinfeng. In 1939, Taiping County was divided into three districts, and the townships were Longyao, Xinsheng and Jingyang. In 1949, Taiping County was changed into 3 districts, 2 towns and 12 townships. The townships still belong to Longmen, Xinsheng and Jingyang townships, and belong to Yangxi district. In August 1952, Xinhua Township governed CaoJun village and Dabao village, while Zitian Township governed Zitian village and Cangxi Village (it was transferred from Longmen Township in 1952). In March 1956, the district was withdrawn and the township was merged. Xinhua Township and Zitian Township were merged to establish Zitian township. In October 1958, people's communization was carried out. In Taiping County, there are four people's communes, namely Gantang, sankou, Longyuan and Xinfeng, which are under the jurisdiction of Xinfeng people's commune. In June 1961, the scale of the people's commune was adjusted, and the Xinhua management area was set up. In June 1963, the county was divided into eight districts, and Xinhua commune was subordinate to Xinfeng district. In July 1983, the establishment of townships and villages was restored and Xinhua township was established. In September 1984, Huangshan City was set up at the county level. The township is subordinate to Xinhua District Office. In March 1992, Huangshan District was directly under the Township People's government.

Division evolution
In September 1948, the people's Government of Juntian township was established, with jurisdiction over four villages, namely Dabao, Junling, Caocan and Zitian. In August 1952, Xinhua township was set up in the territory, with jurisdiction over CaoJun and Dabao villages; Cangxi village was transferred from Longmen Township, which was merged with Zitian village and set up Zitian township. In 1961, Xinhua people's commune was established, with five production teams under its jurisdiction, namely Dabao, Caocan, Zitian, dongjiawan and Guxi. In July 1970, the society had six production teams, including Dabao, dongjiawan, Caocan, Zitian, Cangxi and Shaosheng, and 47 production teams. In July 1983, with the change of system, the above six production teams were changed into administrative villages and 47 production teams into villagers' groups. In 2008, Shaoling village and dongjiawan village merged into dongjiawan village, and the former Cangxi village and Zitian village merged into Zitian village.

Geology and geomorphology
About 2 / 3 area of xinhuaxiang formation is sedimentary rock, which is formed from Late Proterozoic to Cenozoic Quaternary. The Silurian is dominated by various kinds of shale, which is widely distributed in the northern and central parts of the country. Stage II-III terraces of the river valley were formed in the Quaternary. The strata are loam, sand and gravel, which are distributed on both sides of the river in Caocan, Dabao and Zitian. Xinhua township has hills, basins and valleys alternating with each other. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south. In the north, there is a steep hanging middle mountain, and in the south, there are low hills and Intermountain basins and valleys. In the north, Youshan is the center and extends to the two wings of its eastern edge. Both of them are steep suspended mountains, forming a natural barrier at the edge of the rural area. The central and southern parts are low mountains, basins and valleys, bordering Taiping Lake.
