Chengdong township is located on the East Bank of Chongxi, Southeast of Chengguan, Wuyishan City, with Wuyishan tea farm in the south, Yangzhuang Township in the west, Shangmei Township in the East and Wutun Township in the north. Chengdong township is located in the semi mountainous area. Niukuang, the highest natural village, is 741 meters above sea level, and the lowest administrative village is 252 meters above sea level.
In ancient times, Chengdong township was under the jurisdiction of siyuli and Wutai township (some areas). During the period of the Republic of China, it belonged to Qingxian town. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Yangdun Township, walnut Township and part of the jurisdiction of Chengguan town. In August 1980, the Chengguan people's commune set up Xidong people's commune. In 1983, it was renamed Chengdong people's commune. In 1984, the commune was abolished and the township was set up. The district remained unchanged. It governed seven administrative villages, including Wuli, benggeng, songao, Cunwei, Huangdun, Yangdun and Liyang, and 72 villager groups, with 2689 households and 11299 people, including 2832 non-agricultural population. the total area of the township is 109.7 square kilometers, with 12772 mu of cultivated land, including 12396 mu of paddy field, and the agriculture is mainly rice. There are rape, soybean and other economic crops. In 1992, the total grain output was 4.341 million kg, with an average yield of 332.82 kg per mu. The total area of woodland is 138383 mu, which is rich in timber and moso bamboo. In 1993, there were 159 Township run enterprises with a total output value of 20.4 million yuan and 22.44 million yuan for Industry and agriculture. Three highways with a total length of 31 km have been built in the township, initially solving the traffic backwardness. there are one junior middle school and 31 primary schools in the township, with 126 teachers and 849 students. Medical stations and clinics were set up in each administrative village, with 12 medical staff. Liyang, Yangdun, Huangdun and songao were the revolutionary base villages during the second Civil Revolutionary War. The Soviet government of Chongan county and the CPC Chongan County Committee once settled in Huangdun in the 21st year of the Republic of China.
