Jinshan Town

Jinshan Town, subordinate to Wenchang City, Hainan Province, is located in the northeast of Wenchang City, adjacent to Fengpo town in the East, Baoluo town in the South and beidunpuqian town in the south, with a total administrative area of 26.9 square kilometers. By the end of 2019, the number of registered residence in Jinshan Town was 54578.

During the reign of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty, the ruins were built and named after "beautiful rivers and mountains". Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, it belonged to Jinshan Township. In 1951, JianZheng belonged to the Tenth District of Wenchang county (Jinshan District). In 1957, it was restored to Jinshan Township. In 1983, it was changed to Jinshan District. In 1986, it was established as a town. As of June 2020, Jinshan Town governs 3 communities and 27 administrative villages.

The origin of place names

Jinshan market is said to have been built at the intersection of paigang River and Zhuxi River during the reign of Chongzhen in Ming Dynasty. Later, he moved to Yunshi Village (today's paigang Village) market. Because the market was surrounded by woods and the place was small, in order to expand the market, the surrounding trees were cut down. In order to protect the trees from further cutting down, the local elders made a "no cutting down" ban. Therefore, people named the market "forbidden mountain city". Because the market could not be expanded any more, people moved the market to Jinshan Village for trade, so they changed "forbidden mountain city" to Jinshan City, which means "beautiful river and mountain". During the reign of Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty, Jinshan City moved to paomapo.

The North tributary flows through Fengpo, Shanya, xiaxipo, Qiaopo, Xiayuan and Lujia of Jinshan; the West tributary (paigangxi) originates from Wushi village of Baoluo Town, flows through Hushan and Nanba, paigang, Wenjin and Lujia of Jinshan, enters Zhuxi River, and flows into Puqian port to sea.
