Shangzhuang town is located in the northeast of Haidian new area, in the development zone of Beijing urban function development zone and Zhongguancun National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone, and belongs to the urban-rural fringe in the north of Haidian. The town government is located in the south of Shangzhuang village. It has one neighborhood committee and 20 village committees. As of 2014, there were 52800 permanent residents in the town.
In July 2020, it won the honorary title of national health Township from 2017 to 2019.
Evolution of organizational system
Now Shangzhuang belongs to Changping County for a long time.
Zhanghua farm, the predecessor of Xijiao farm, was established in November 1949. The farm Department is located in the south of Changhua Village (now Sijiqing). It was changed to its current name in April 1954.
In March 1956, baishuiwa township was established.
In May 1958, the farm Department of the western suburb moved to the south of Shangzhuang Village (belonging to baishuiwa township).
On September 1, 1958, the township was incorporated into Xianfeng people's commune of Changping District. In October, most of the former baishuiwa township (except dongtuo) and Sujiatuo Township were included in Haidian District and merged into Yongfeng people's commune of Haidian District, which was newly established on October 7.
In April 1961, Yongfeng commune was abolished, and Shangzhuang people's commune was established in the current rural area. At the same time, the name of "Shangzhuang township" was set up (cancelled in the Cultural Revolution). With the state-owned western suburb farm, the administrative system of the integration of farm and countryside was implemented.
On April 4, 1984, Shangzhuang township was established. The township government and the management organization of Xijiao farm worked together.
In February 1992, the General Corporation of agriculture, industry and Commerce of the township was established (with the farm as "one organization, two names"). The state-owned farm economy and the rural collective economy are operated by the farm (head office) in a unified way. It has 5 branches (state-owned) and 4 branches (collective, namely 4 villages) in dairy, livestock, industry, construction, supply and marketing.
In 1986, the administrative village committee was established.
In November 1998, Shangzhuang township was separated from Xijiao farm.
In 2000, the village committee of Shangzhuang township was adjusted to 20 village committees, including dongmafang village, ximafang village, Changle Village, Shangzhuang village, beiyuhe village, xizha village, Bajia village, zaojiatun village, dongxiaoying village, luojiafen village, yongtaizhuang village, nanyuhe village, lijiafeng village, meisuotun village, Shuangta village, Qianzhang Village, Houzhang village, xixinlitun village, Hebei village and baishuiwa village.
In July 2003, Shangzhuang township was removed and Shangzhuang town was established.
In 2014, Jingxi rice (Royal Gongmi) in ximafang village of Shangzhuang town was listed as intangible cultural heritage.

Shangzhuang town covers an area of 38.5 square kilometers, all of which are plain developable land. The town's total land area is 3840.17 hectares, Shangzhuang town's total land area is 3835.26 hectares, of which the proportion of agricultural land is the largest, with an area of 2826.23 hectares, accounting for 73.69% of the total land area; followed by construction land, with an area of 948.12 hectares, accounting for 24.72% of the total land area; the proportion of other land is the lowest, with an area of 60.91 hectares, accounting for 1.59% of the total land area.

The southern part of Shangzhuang town is brown soil, and the northern part is sandy soil. Nansha River and Beisha river run through the north and south of the township from west to East. Shangzhuang reservoir on Nansha River has a water surface of 1800 Mu and a water storage capacity of 1.8 million cubic meters. Nansha River is the main flood discharge channel in the north of Haidian District.

Shangzhuang town is located in the second green isolation belt of Beijing, with a forest coverage rate of more than 35%. It is known as the "urban oxygen bar" of Cuihu National Urban Wetland Park. The river water area of the town is more than 7000 mu.
Economic overview
Up to the beginning of Ming Dynasty, the town was the traffic hub of Beijing to the north at that time. The town area is a traditional agricultural area. Since the late 1950s, water conservancy projects have been built in the rural areas to carry out farmland capital construction, and Shangzhuang reservoir was built in 1960. Since the late 1960s, it has been mainly planted in rice, and its Jingxi rice was identified as green food in 1992. Since the 1980s, some famous rice varieties have been introduced, such as Simiao rice, zixiangnuo, heixiangnuo, Wujin rice, hongxiangjing rice, etc., and the technology of rice seedling throwing and underground pipe irrigation has been taken the lead. The animal husbandry of the farm is developed, and the dairy cattle, broilers and layers are among the best in the region.
Shangzhuang town economy is mainly to develop urban modern agriculture. The regional characteristic agricultural products include Jingxi Gongmi, edible fungi, Dongzao, strawberry, cherry, nectarine, waxy corn, etc.
In 2010, the total regional economic income reached 910 million yuan, an increase of 17% compared with the previous year; the regional net income reached 230 million yuan, an increase of 21% compared with the previous year; the regional tax income reached 29.12 million yuan, an increase of 69% compared with the previous year; the per capita income reached 9594 yuan, an increase of 20% compared with 7995 yuan in the same period of the previous year. From the perspective of industry data, affected by the environment and policies, the income of agriculture reached 63.66 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 12%; the income of forestry reached 35.71 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8%; the income of industry reached 33.63 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7%; the income of construction industry reached 96.99 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 81%; the income of land acquisition, demolition and other businesses reached 98.46 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 51%; the income of subsidy reached 2396 million yuan Yuan, a year-on-year increase of 309%. Shangzhuang town is located in the northernmost part of Haidian. It is an agricultural town mainly planting rice, corn, cherry, blueberry and other fine melons, fruits and green vegetables. There are large areas of paddy fields, woodlands and orchards in the town. The air is fresh and the environment is beautiful. Shangzhuang is also a place full of cultural heritage. Cao's kite craft workshop, located in lijiafeng village on the east side of the North Bank of Shangzhuang reservoir, displays, manufactures and sells Cao's kite, a national intangible cultural heritage inheriting Cao Xueqin's kite making skills. You can watch the exquisite craftsmanship of traditional Chinese kites in the workshop I feel Mr. Cao Xueqin's noble feelings of helping the poor by teaching people kite skills. Along Shangzhuang road to the north and 500 meters to the east of Shayang Road, there is a village named yongtaizhuang. What's more special is that it was rebuilt by Nalan Mingzhu and his family during the reign of Emperor Kangxi, and the memorial tablet of Nalan was consecrated. It is called Nalan ancestral hall, which reminds people of the rise and fall of Nalan family feudalism in those years, and it has become a memorial place for many Nalan fans to commemorate Nalan Xingde, the eldest son of Nalan Mingzhu, the first poet of the Qing Dynasty.
