It covers an area of 75.59 square kilometers. In 2018, Ming Yong town registered residence population of 13513.

In 1961, Mingyong commune was established. In 1970, it was restored to Mingyong commune. In 1983, it was changed to Mingyong township. In 2015, the township was replaced by township. As of June 2020, Mingyong town has jurisdiction over 12 administrative villages, and the town people's government is stationed in Mingyong village.
