Angou town belongs to Yanchang County, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province. Located in the southeast of Yanchang county. It is adjacent to Zhangjiatan town in the East, Yunyan town in Yichuan County in the South and Qili Village in the West and North. The maximum distance from east to west is 17.6 kilometers, and the maximum distance from north to south is 20.3 kilometers, with a total area of 202.4 square kilometers. Among them, land area is 192.4 square kilometers, accounting for 95%; water area is 10 square kilometers, accounting for 5%.
As of June 2020, Angou town has 15 administrative villages. As of 2018, the population of 9681 people registered residence in the town. In 2011, the total agricultural output value of Angou town was 150 million yuan, and the total social commodity sales reached 800000 yuan.
Historical evolution
The village is located on the west side of the middle reaches of Angou River, and the township is named after the village.
The Qing Dynasty belonged to xinxingli, Yanchang county.
In 1930, it belonged to the Southern District.
In May 1935, it was a creation zone.
In December 1936, it belonged to two districts.
In August 1948, it belonged to tunerwan District of Linzhen county.
In February 1949, it belonged to five and three districts of Yanchang county.
In April 1956, it belongs to Zhangjiatan district.
In September 1958, Angou commune was established.
In May 1961, linwa commune was established.
In May 1965, linwa commune was abolished and merged into Angou commune.
In 1984, Angou township was established.
On June 28, 2015, Shaanxi Province adjusted the township administrative division, abolished Angou Township and established Angou town.

Angou town is located in the hilly and gully region of the Loess Plateau. The terrain is high in the southeast and low in the north, with an altitude of 586-1391 meters. The landform can be divided into three types: Valley terrace, loess broad ridge plateau and loess Ridge Hill. The main mountains in the territory are tongerwan mountain, the extension branch of Laoshan mountain. The highest peak is located in tongerwan mountain, Southeast of Angou Township, with an altitude of 1391 meters; the lowest point is located at the place where Angou River enters Yanhe River, with an altitude of 586 meters.

Angou River, the largest river in the territory, originates from houchakougouzhang of Angou Township, flows through nine villages and joins into Yanhe River at Dongjiahe village of Zhangjiatan Town, with a total length of 18.9 meters and annual runoff of 1.38 million cubic meters.
