Mengban town
Mengban town is located in the northeast of Mengla County, 38 kilometers away from Mengla County and 210 kilometers away from Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture. It is a semi mountainous border town. It intersects Mengla town in the south, Yao Township in the West and Laos in the northeast.
Mengban town covers an area of 580.52 square kilometers, governs four villages and has a permanent population of 12882 (2017).

Evolution of organizational system
Before September 30, 1949, Mengban belonged to "Mengya" in the administrative level of the feudal chieftain system, with a total of 16 villages. In 1953, the people's Government of Mengban township (village level township) was established, which was listed as the eighth Township People's Government of Mengla district. It was called Mengban eight Township and was under the jurisdiction of Mengla district (now Mengla County). In 1958, the people's commune was established in Mengban township. In 1969, mengpange Township set up a brigade, which was called "outpost brigade". In 1970, the outpost brigade was assigned to the Yao commune and renamed mengpang brigade. In 1984, when it was set up as a district to build a township, Mengban District Office was set up from Yao district. In 2002, maocaoshan, taoziqing and naxiu village groups in jingpiao village of Mengla town were put under the jurisdiction of xialai village of Mengban town. In 2010, the office building of Mengban town cultural station was built and put into use (including library, electronic reading room and office).
