Mengxian town is located in the east of Ning'er County, 32 kilometers away from the county seat, adjacent to Puyi Township in the East, Ning'er town and Tongxin town in the West.

It is a mountainous landform, with the highest altitude of 2293.30 meters at Qingtou of Chashan and the lowest altitude of 935 meters at kongbei of Zhushan. It has a subtropical monsoon climate, warm in winter and cool in summer, with an average annual temperature of 18 degrees and an annual precipitation of about 1800 mm.

Evolution of organizational system

It was a township in the Republic of China. It was changed into a district in 1949, a peace commune in 1958, a Mengxian District in 1961, a commune in 1969, a district in 1983, and a township in 1987. On December 28, 2012, Yunnan Provincial People's Government approved the cancellation of Mengxian Township in Ning'er county and the establishment of Mengxian town. The total length of the project is 25.4 km, the bidding price is 12.1438 million yuan, and the planned construction period is 247 days. on September 22, 2016, Ningjiang highway (Ning'er section) was started, and the whole line was constructed according to the standard of class III Highway, passing through Mengxian Town, with a total length of 119.4 km. on March 28, 2017, the dam of manbaqing reservoir in Mengxian town was completed and put into use. The construction of the reservoir was started in 2014, with a reservoir capacity of 4.2657 million cubic meters and an annual water supply of 3.805 million cubic meters. Manbaqing reservoir is a small (I) reservoir mainly for agricultural irrigation, taking into account the drinking water of people and livestock in the irrigation area. On January 30, 2019, the project passed the completion acceptance.
