Wuzhai Yi and Miao township is located in the south of Yongshan County, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province. It is a new Yi and Miao Township built in 1988. The Township People's government is 149 kilometers away from the county seat and 75 kilometers away from Zhaotong City. It is connected with Maolin town in the East, Sujia Township in Zhaoyang District of Zhaotong City in the south, Makou Township in the West and Daxing Town in the north. With an area of 172.59 square kilometers, the township has five villagers' committees, namely Wuzhai, Xinsheng, Changhai, Zhongzhai and Baiyun, and 94 villagers' groups, Yi people mainly live in pengjiazhai, Wuzhai, Yantou and other village groups; Miao people mainly live in laopengzi and guanjiawuji in Xinsheng village, changhaizi in Changhai village, Xiazhai, shanguozhuang in Zhongzhai village and Xinzhai natural village in Baiyun Village.

Agricultural production mainly adopts traditional farming methods. The main products in the territory are corn, potato, buckwheat, oats, etc., and there are economic crops such as orchids and sunflowers. The forest land is mainly artificial long-term protection forest, returning farmland to forest and natural forest; there are scattered economic fruits such as pear, walnut and chestnut. The township is rich in water resources, with a water surface area of 5850 mu. Changhai reservoir has beautiful scenery, and the mountains, water and sky are interconnected. The Sayu river flows through the township, and the Qingxi River gurgles. The rivers in the township crisscross and flow northward into Jinsha River. The township is the highest altitude cold mountain area in the county. There are the largest 100000 Mu natural grassland and famous wetland landscape in Zhaotong. Hundreds of endangered and rare species of black necked Crane come from spring to winter. Zhongzhai, Changhai, Baiyun winter snow world is a silver wilderness. Rural roads crisscross, natural landscape and cultural landscape blend, constitute a harmonious and magnificent picture, rich in iron ore, copper and other underground resources.

Wuzhai Yi people call themselves "Nuosu", which is one of the two major Yi branches in Yongshan. The remaining characters are ancient Yi language. Among the people, Bimo inherited and used the ancient Yi language. Wuzhai Yi people use the October solar calendar to divide a year into ten months, 35 days a month, and the remaining 15 days are used for the new year. The local name is Yi People's year (equivalent to the Spring Festival of Han people). Torch Festival is on June 24 every year. At that time, people put on festival costumes, slaughter cattle, sheep and pigs, gather around the campfire, sing and dance around the circle, drink a big bowl of wine, eat large pieces of meat, wrestle between men and women, and enjoy the carnival. There are mass spontaneous organizations for performing arts such as Yueqin, suona and erhu among the people. Walking into the Yi village, the ancient bimo culture, Bodhisattva forest, roast suckling pig, dundun meat and Torch Festival bonfire Carnival are all permeated with rich Yi customs. At the same time, Miao culture is also colorful. Miao's Huashan Festival (the fifth day of May each year), Sandao Yangjiao wine, kowtow wine custom, wax dyeing handicraft and so on attract people's attention. The traditional culture of this ethnic group is well preserved. The residential buildings, language and costumes, songs and dances, production and living customs, etc. all fully show the strong local ethnic characteristics. When you enter the Miao village, flying songs and Lusheng reverberate in the blue sky and white clouds.

In 2006, the total rural economic income of the township was 18.1464 million yuan, including 6.3226 million yuan from planting industry, accounting for 34.8% of the total income; 11.7939 million yuan from animal husbandry, accounting for 65% of the total income (including 11810 pigs, 1420 cattle and 10580 mutton sheep); and 30000 yuan from forestry, accounting for 0.2% of the total income. The per capita net income of farmers is 940 yuan, and the main income of farmers is planting and animal husbandry. The income of migrant workers in the township is 2.5 million yuan, including 1063 migrant workers, 546 domestic workers in the province and 517 foreign workers in the province.
Population health
The township governs Wuzhai village, Xinsheng village, Changhai village, Zhongzhai village, Baiyun Village, 5 village committees, 31 natural villages, 94 villager groups, with a total population of 12224 (2017), and inhabits Han, Yi, Miao and other nationalities. One township health center, one Township family planning service station and five village clinics have been built. The establishment of township and village clinics has provided convenient and high-quality medical and health care services for the masses in Wuzhai.
