Yongchang Wetland Park, formerly known as Yongchang fish pond, is located in the south of the entrance of Chuanfang River to Yunnan, with an original area of 198 mu. The fish pond not only cut off and reduced the water surface of Caohai Lake, but also became the water pollution source of Caohai Lake due to years of cultivation and management. In the comprehensive treatment of Dianchi Lake water environment, the resort implemented the policy of returning people, houses and ponds, demolishing the original breakwater of 880 meters long, demolishing the fish pond cofferdam of more than 1100 meters, cleaning up the water surface, attached dam weeds and garbage of more than 110000 square meters, and dredging mud of 57000 cubic meters, which completely opened up the channel between the original fish pond and Caohai, and expanded the water surface area from 198 Mu to 220 Mu now. At the same time, the staff of the resort used the dredged mud to build the bird habitat landscape island in the original position of the demolished fish pond breakwater and dam ridge, planted more than 3240 trees such as Metasequoia glyptostroboides, weeping willow, poplar, red maple and Ficus microcarpa, and more than 366700 aquatic plants such as Acorus calamus, Eclipta and lotus.

Entering the garden from the east gate, you can see a group of giant sculptures of "Dongyi Shenjun" galloping horses. The horse is full of spirituality, vigorous strength, abundant bones and tendons, natural and unrestrained, and has no atmosphere of captivity. Surrounded by trees, the east garden is composed of triple round gate, breeze and moon Pavilion, and peacock sculpture of "auspicious forever".
Caohai Lake is an important part of Dianchi Lake, which is relative to the "open sea", located in the north of Dianchi Lake. The original Lake area went deep into the urban area of Kunming city. In the 1960s, it was destroyed because of "reclaiming land from the lake". At present, only a small area of water north of Haigeng dam is left, connecting with Daguan River and Xiba River in Kunming city. The water quality of Caohai is inferior to class V, but under the vigorous management of Kunming municipal government, the water quality of Caohai is gradually recovering. Now it has become one of the important habitats for the red headed gulls to overwinter in Kunming.
