Historical evolution
Xingyi people used to pronounce the word "Jia" in Mujia as "Qi" (local pronunciation). It is said that there are many trees in this area. Later, a large-scale timber trading market was gradually formed, so it was named "Mujia" (JIA in Putonghua means "Jia"). During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, flood control was usually set up in the key areas, and "Tang" was set up in the areas where ethnic minorities often resisted. Mujia was a mixed area of Han and ethnic minorities, and was also located in the key area of Xingyi North Road. In order to maintain stability, flood control and tax gates were usually set up. At this time, Mujia played a dual role in regulating politics and economy. According to the records of Xingyi Prefecture: in the 16th year of Jiaqing reign of Qing Dynasty, huangpingying governed 115 villages including Dongge, Mujia and yanziwo. Fengtang was the center of the North Road, and set up a Tang and tax gate. In order to make the market free from deception, the merchant Jia Yuelai set up a trading market in Fengtang. From the middle and late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, the focus of economic development shifted from Fengtang to Mujia.
