Shunchang township is located in the southwest of Shuicheng County, Guizhou Province, to the north of Badan mountain, the foot of Niangniang mountain and the South Bank of Beipanjiang river. It borders Huajia Township in the East, pugu Township in Panxian County in the South and Longchang Township in Shuicheng County in the west, and faces Xinjie and Yezhong across the river, 125 km away from the county. With a total area of 119.4 square kilometers, the township has jurisdiction over 11 administrative villages, 84 villager groups, 5282 households and 21478 people. The tuotong power station with an investment of more than 10 million yuan has been built for power generation, and the Shannipo power station with an investment of 1.6 billion yuan has started construction smoothly; the xiaosongbao hydropower station of Machang formation in Hongyan village has yet to be developed; the Niangniangshan and fengfengdi wind power stations are under planning and investigation.

The township has 13434 mu of cultivated land, including 4000 mu of paddy field, 9434 mu of dry land and 0.63 mu of cultivated land per capita. The lowest altitude in the township is 800m and the highest is 2443m. The annual average temperature is 13.8 ℃, the annual rainfall is about 1200 mm, and the frost free period is 285 days. The soil is mainly horse manure with mild climate and fertile soil.
