Zhagu Township

Zhagu Township, belonging to Qianwei County, Leshan City, Sichuan Province, is located on the edge of Qianwei County, 28.51 kilometers to the south. It borders tielu Township in the East, Xinfan Township in Muchuan County in the south, Qingxi Town and Jiujing Township in the west, and Xiaogu town in the north. The area is 41.1 square kilometers. In 2017, the total population of Zhagu township was 7814. By 2019, Zhagu rural area has jurisdiction over 9 administrative villages and 1 community.

In December 2019, the people's Government of Sichuan Province decided to abolish Zhagu Township and Jiujing Township and establish Jiujing town.

Historical evolution

At the end of the Qing Dynasty, it was named zheguchang. It is said that the people in the field always heard the drum sound from the ground at midnight every night. When they found the place where the drum sound came from, they built a drum shaped stone pile with a diameter of 3 meters, a height of 1.5 meters, and planted Huangjue tree in the middle of the stone pile, which means squeezing the drum sound. Sure enough, the drum sound disappeared after that, so it was called zheguchang.

In 1929, it was called Zhagu township.

In June 1951, Zhagu township was divided into three townships: Zhagu, Bajiao and Zhiyuan.

In November 1956, the three townships were merged into Zhagu township.

In September 1958, it was incorporated into Xiaogu people's commune.

In July 1959, it was set up from Xiaogu.

In 1984, it returned to Zhagu township.

In 2015, Zhagu township has jurisdiction over 80 villager groups in 9 villages of Yongfeng, Guantang, Maliu, Baihua, Bajiao, Tanggou, Huilong, Tangkou and Shuanghuang, and 1 community and 2 resident groups in zhaguchang.

In December 2019, the people's Government of Sichuan Province decided to abolish Zhagu Township and Jiujing Township and establish Jiujing town. The administrative areas of the former Zhagu Township, the former Jiujing Township and the Zhiyuan village of Qingxi Town were put under the jurisdiction of Jiujing town.
