Beidun Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Heping County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, is located in the east of Heping County, covering an area of 132.35 square kilometers. As of 2019, 15 village committees and 1 neighborhood committees were under control, with a population of over 3.2 registered residence.

Historical evolution

Beidun was subordinate to Longchuan County since Zhao Tuo established it in Qin Dynasty.

From the beginning of the reign of the county to Heping, beidun is under the jurisdiction of Heping County, belonging to Heping Guangsan map.

In 1877, the Security Bureau and restriction system were implemented. The county set up a general bureau and eight sub bureaus. Bedun was one of them.

Beidun Yue Chang was built in 1889.

In 1928, peidun was the third district (named Siyue).

In 1931, the government was ordered to hold self-government.

After the founding of the people's Republic of China in 1949, beidun Township People's government was established.

In 1952, lianpengzhai, Liangxi, Guzhai, Anlong and youshengyuxi were the fourth districts.

Beidun town is located in the east of Heping County, bordering Chetian town of Longchuan County in the East, Guzhai town in the south, pengzhai town in the west, Yousheng town and Changtang town in the north. It covers an area of 132.35 square kilometers, including 20810 mu of cultivated land and 66539 mu of woodland.

Topography and climate

Beidun town is a hilly area with low latitude subtropical monsoon. Frost free period is up to 10 months, the highest temperature is 40C, the lowest temperature is - 3C. The annual rainfall is about 1600 mm.

Beidun town is rich in water resources, with Yutan water, a secondary tributary of Dongjiang River, and three county hydropower stations, laoyuan, bengxiong and niezishi, built in the upstream. There is a hot spring called "fluid gold mine" in the town. There are more than 30 kinds of springs with large flow and temperature between 80-93 ℃. It is rich in rare earth, fluorite, iron ore and other resources.

People living in beidun have more than 10 surnames. By looking up the genealogy of Zhou, Zhu, Ling, ye and other surnames, we can find that most of their ancestors came to beidun at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, with a history of about 600 years. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were 12 Juren, 11 Gongsheng, 19 department level cadres and 5 university professors in beidun town.

The origin of town name

Beidun Street 100 meters north, there is a huge stone pier, shaped like a drum, about 5 meters high. Boiling water gushes out from the top of the pier all the year round, and the temperature reaches 87c, which is called boiling pier. In Hakka dialect, "Bei" and "Fei" are homophonic, and the predecessors changed the name of "pudun" to "beidun".

Beidun town is known as the hometown of specialty products, mainly including beidun rice wine, tofu, Yuzhu, beef jerky and other specialty products. Beidun rice wine is commonly known as "beidunshao". The wine is pure, clear and transparent, and tastes good. In 1995, it won the National Agricultural Expo quality product award.
