In the mid-1980s, motorcycles were widely used. In 1989, Dachong village designated March 28 as Dachong's respect for the elderly day every year. The old people were invited to have morning tea, watch programs, go to the park and give red envelopes to everyone in the morning. Farmers who used to go to Hong Kong began to envy their hometown's life.

Collective enterprises were transformed into joint-stock cooperative companies. Farmers became residents and then became shareholders to participate in the annual share dividends. Some residents became employees or managers of the company. Houhai residents were still engaged in oyster raising to increase their income. The housing conditions of the residents have been greatly improved. The previously small and dark brick houses have basically disappeared. They have been converted into multi-storey residential buildings, which are mainly used for rent to increase income. In the mid-1990s, some villager families began to own cars. In 1998, the per capita dividend of the original residents was 16000 yuan.

History and culture
Yuehai street was planned to be built in September 1990. Because it is located on the coast of Houhai and originally named as Binhai street, Chen Wenjiang, Chen Songsheng, Liu Yumei and other members of the preparatory group found that there is a place named Haimen Village with local characteristics in the area, which means it is the gateway of Yuehai (Guangdong Nanhai), so it is suggested to change its name to Yuehai street. The proposal was approved and named Yuehai street. The sub district office was initially located on the first floor of building 36 in Nanyou B District. In January 1996, it moved into Yuehai office complex.
