Youxi town

Youxi Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province, is located in the northeast of Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County. It is one of the three Yao inhabited towns in Ruyuan. The total area of the town is 133.60 square kilometers. In 2019, there were 12864 registered residence population in Huxi Town, 7343 of which were Yao nationality, accounting for 57% of the total population. As of June 2020, Youxi town has jurisdiction over 1 community and 11 administrative villages (3 Han and 8 Yao).

Youxi town was formed by the merger of Liukeng town and laoyouxi town in May 2005. Guangle Expressway and provincial highway 250 (Rugui line) run through the territory, 3 km away from the exit of Guangle Expressway and 18 km away from the exit of Beijing Zhuhai expressway.

In 2018, the GDP of Youxi town is 254 million yuan, and the per capita income of urban residents is 9117 yuan. The collective income of 11 administrative villages in the town has reached more than 50000 yuan.

Historical evolution

In 1953, it was named Youxi township.

In 1958, it was changed into Yaoshan commune.

In 1962, it was changed into Youxi commune.

In 1980, Liukeng commune was established.

In 1983, the districts were changed.

In 1986, they were changed to townships.

In 1993, Youxi township was removed from the township and built into a town.

In 1994, Liukeng township was removed from the township and built into a town.

In 2005, Liukeng town was abolished and merged into Youxi town.

In 1996, Youxi town governed five administrative villages, namely liantangbian, zhongxindong, lengshuiqi, yangmeilang and Dacun; Liukeng town governed seven administrative villages, namely Jiangbei, Zhonglian, liecun, Kengkou, shuliangkeng, Shangying and shuiyuangong.

By June 2020, Youxi town has jurisdiction over 1 community and 11 administrative villages (3 Han and 8 Yao): Central Community, zhongxindong village, Dacun village, lengshuiqi village, liantangbian village, Zhonglian village, Jiangbei Village, lie village, daliaokeng village, yingkeng village, Shangying village and ciliangkeng village.

Youxi town is located in the northeast of Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, adjacent to guitou town in the East, Yiliu town in the south, Dongping town in the West and Bibei town in the north. It is 18 kilometers away from Ruyuan County in the southwest, 7 kilometers away from Yiliu town in the South and 6 kilometers away from guitou town in the north, with a total area of 133.60 square kilometers.

Youxi town is rich in agricultural and economic crops such as rice, betel nut taro, black beauty watermelon, sugarcane and peanut in the hilly and plain area of Han nationality, and Yao mountain area is rich in wood, mountain palm, mushroom and bamboo shoots.

There are six planting bases in Youxi eco agricultural comprehensive park, which are orchid planting base, Camellia oleifera planting base, taro planting base, organic soilless planting base, grape planting base and Emperor orange planting base. The orchid planting base is located in donggengling of lie village, which is mainly engaged in seedling raising and finished product sales. Planting area of more than 80 mu, there are Cymbidium, autumn orchid, spring orchid, Cymbidium and other major categories of more than 30 varieties. Camellia oleifera planting base is located in donggengling, lie village, Youxi Town, with a planting area of about 2450 mu. The taro planting base is mainly distributed in the farmland on both sides of the provincial highway 250, with a planting area of 600 mu, a total investment of 2.02 million yuan, an annual output of about 1.8 million jin, and an annual income of 4.83 million yuan. The products are mainly sold through wholesale in the Pearl River Delta and other places. The organic soilless cultivation base is next to 250 provincial roads, covering an area of 35 Mu and planting area of 50 mu. It is planned to expand 40 mu in the second half of the year. It mainly grows more than 100 varieties of fruits, such as cucumber, tomato, lettuce, pakchoi and Chinese cabbage. The fruits and vegetables have good taste, fresh, pollution-free, green, healthy, safe and high quality. The grape planting base is 2 km away from the 250 line of the provincial road. It adopts a series of modern agricultural production technologies, such as steel frame greenhouse, scientific temperature control, insect prevention net and so on. Huangdi orange planting base is mainly distributed in the farmland and mountain areas along the 250 provincial highway, with a total area of 400 mu and a total investment of about 4.5 million yuan. In the high-yield period, the yield per mu can reach 3000-5000 Jin, the annual yield can reach more than 1 million jin, and the annual income is more than 3.4 million yuan.

On January 17, 2019, the opening ceremony of Shaoguan's first "Shanmei children's home" jointly held by Shaoguan women's Federation, Shaoguan civilization office, Ruyuan women's Federation and Shaoguan lesanyi trade union was solemnly held in Liukeng Central Primary School of Youxi town. Yao language is the main language in Yaoshan area of Youxi Town, which is connected with Hakka language and spoken in Han area.

Youxi town is one of the three Yao inhabited towns in Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County. Yao people living in Dayaoshan raise one to two big fat pigs a year. They kill pigs on New Year's day or near the Spring Festival. The pork is salted and hung under the eaves of the kitchen to make black smoked bacon for one year's consumption. Yao people are warm and hospitable. They usually treat visitors with bacon and Yao people's wine.
