Zhouqiao Street

Zhouqiao street is located in the southwest of Gulou District, Kaifeng City, Henan Province, adjacent to Xinhua Street in the East, bounded by Zhongshan Road, city wall in the south, city wall in the west, Xisi street in the north, and provincial capital street in the East, covering an area of 2.4 square kilometers. Zili town was built in 1949 and renamed Zhifang town in 1952, Zhifang street in 1955, Zhouqiao commune in 1958 and Zhouqiao street in 1962. In 1997, it had jurisdiction over 11 neighborhood committees, including Xianjiao, Guanyi street, Qiaobei, Qiaonan, Zili street, Yingjie, dazhifang street, xiaozhifang street, Yanqing street, Xipo and baofukeng South Road.

History and Humanities

In the Song Dynasty, Tianjie (Yu Street) is not far from the south of the junction between the middle section of Zhongshan Road and the west entrance of Ziyou road and the east entrance of dazhifang street. There is an ancient bridge buried 4.5 meters deep in the middle of the road in front of Sanmao times Shopping Plaza (formerly Kaifeng shoe factory). ——In the Song Dynasty, Zhouqiao was named after the 130 meter long section of road from the west of Ziyou road to the east of dazhifang street to the west of Muchang street and the east of xiaozhifang street. Zhou Bridge is a bridge built by Li Mian, the governor of bianzhou in Tang Dynasty, on the Bianhe River during the Jianzhong period (780 ~ 783). It is not far from the south of the state, so it is called bianzhou bridge. It was renamed Tianhan bridge in the Northern Song Dynasty. But the masses still call it "Zhou Qiao". On September 14, 1642 A.D., the Yellow River burst from zhujiazhai and Majiazhai. Kaifeng City was inundated, nine out of ten people died, and Zhou Bridge was silted. In the Qing Dynasty, there was a Guandi temple in the old site of Zhouqiao. The monks of the temple always looked at the gate and called it "guzhouqiao", so it was called "Guandi Temple of Zhouqiao". According to the old saying, "the main hall of the temple sits on the bridge, and there are urn bricks under it. The flat bridge was blocked by the river at the end of Ming Dynasty, so later generations were able to build the temple on it (see the manuscript of Tokyo chronicles by song Jijiao in Qing Dynasty). In the Qing Dynasty, there was a "Zhouqiao stele" at the Zhouqiao site, but most of the people ignored it. Today, people still call it "Zhouqiao". At present, this area is under the jurisdiction of Zhouqiao sub district office of Gulou District. Street offices and police stations all got their names from this. In the 1980s, the ancient Zhou Bridge, which had been buried for more than 340 years, was discovered. After preliminary exploration, the ancient bridge built by song Jianming was basically intact. It provides accurate coordinates for the archaeology and the location of the ancient city of Song Dynasty. The masses call for the development and utilization of this ancient bridge when conditions permit, so as to enrich the ancient charm of song city and facilitate tourism.
