Yanfang town

Yanfang town is located in the north of Yongxiu County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. It faces Gongqing city in the East, bajiaoling reclamation farm in the south, Meitang town in the west, Baota Township in De'an County in the north, Junshan in the southeast and Qiujin in the southwest. Yongwu Expressway and national highway 105 run through the whole territory. The interchange between Yongwu Expressway and Yunju mountain is located in the territory.

The town covers an area of 58 square kilometers, including 30840 mu of arable land and 13000 people. It has jurisdiction over 8 administrative villages, a neighborhood committee, 105 villager groups and 21 units.

Historical evolution

The area of Yanfang town was inhabited as early as the Shang Dynasty. In the early Song Dynasty, it got its name because Yan Gongxiu and Yan gongnan moved here from Kaotai County, Henan Province. Before 1950, it belonged to Yanfang and Qiujin townships in three districts; after 1950, it belonged to Yanfang, Pingtang and Yueshan townships in six districts; in 1958, it belonged to Junshan reclamation farm; in the second half of the same year, it belonged to Jiangyi commune; in 1975, it was separated from Jiangyi commune into Yanfang commune; in 1977, it belonged to Jiujiang reclamation team. In 1979, it was still called Yanfang commune. In October 1984, it was renamed Yanfang township. In October 1999, it was withdrawn from the township to build a town.

The town government is 32 kilometers away from the county seat, 8 kilometers away from the urban area of Gongqing City, and 10 kilometers away from De'an County seat. It has jurisdiction over six administrative villages, including lingshang, Chengquan, Jinban, Yueshan, Silian, Jianglong, and pailouling neighborhood committee, with a total of 99 villager groups and a population of more than 10100.

Economic overview

Yanfang town is a hilly area with rolling hills and mountains. The hills account for 90% of the total area, and Pingban accounts for 10%. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south.
