Xiafang Township

Xia Fang Township, a county in Sanming City, Fujian Province, is located in the northwest of Mingxi county. It has an area of 231.20 square kilometers, and has 7366 registered residence population (2018). It has 9 Village Committees (2019), 6 provincial beautiful villages and 1 traditional state-level villages.

Xiafang township is the base township of the old revolutionary base area in Fujian Province, the key township of immigrants in the reservoir area, and the national demonstration township of ecological civilization construction.

Historical evolution

Xiafang has a long history, which was recorded in 1470.

In July 1958, Aofeng commune was established.

In 1961, aokeng commune was established.

In August 1968, Xiafang commune was established.

In June 1987, Xiafang township was established.

Location context

Xiafang township is located in the northwest of Mingxi County, 55 kilometers away from Mingxi County. It is adjacent to Gaiyang town of Mingxi County in the East, Quanshang town of Ninghua County in the south, Fengxi town of Mingxi County in the west, Dalong town of Taining County and Junkou town of Jianning County in the north, belonging to the junction of "four counties and five townships". It covers an area of 231.20 square kilometers.

There are six peaks with a height of more than 1000 meters in Xiafang Township, with the lowest altitude of 400 meters. The main peak of Junzi peak is 1360.5 meters high.

Xiafang township is located in Jinxi basin at the source of Minjiang River. Three main streams, Xiafang stream, Zhongxi stream and zhushe stream, converge and flow into Jinhu Lake in Taining.

History and culture

Red Culture

From 1931 to 1934, the Soviet governments of Xiafang and aokeng were established. After the first victory of the Red Army against "encirclement and suppression", Tan Zhenlin, Luo Binghui, Zhong Guochu, Chi Yibiao and Tan Chengzhang entered Xiafang many times to mobilize the masses to carry out revolutionary struggle. According to historical records, 42 Red Army soldiers died for the revolution, accounting for 2.3% of the total population at that time. Zhushe Xiashi Sanfang temple, Xiafang yuhuanglou and aokeng Guandi temple are the sites of the Soviet government.

Junzi peak Nature Reserve

Xiafang township is the core area of the national Junzi peak nature reserve, with a forest coverage rate of 87.5% and a standing stock of 2.24 million cubic meters. The nature reserve covers an area of 93714 Mu and the ecological public welfare forest covers an area of 10456 mu. Celebrities in Xiafang Township include Xie Yingpu (during the reign of Yuan Dynasty, he served as Royal envoy, Minister of the Ministry of war, and Deputy envoy to the Privy Council at the end of Yuan Dynasty, and died for the Yuan Dynasty. His wife hanged herself and was inscribed with "a loyal family" by Emperor Hongwu), Xie Zirong (in the first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty, he was granted the title of general and Privy Council by Zhu Yuanzhang).
