Zhaitan township is located in the middle of Songyang county. The township government is located in Zhaitan village. The whole township is located in the south of songyinxi, 6.2km away from the county. It is surrounded by Yecun Township, Xinchu Township, Zhangxi Township, WangSong Township and Gushi town. The township covers a total area of 26 square kilometers, about 6 kilometers long from east to west and 5 kilometers wide from north to south, with an average altitude of 150 meters. Dongguanyuan reservoir, xiankengyuan reservoir, Beigan canal, jingliangzhen and liangxiazhen irrigate farmland with complete water conservancy facilities; Jiangnan highway and Wangzhai highway run through the countryside with convenient transportation.

In 2003, the per capita income of the township was 3228 yuan, which was one of the earliest towns in Songyang county to obtain the title of well-off township.

Historical evolution
In 1961, the Shixuan office was set aside from the Yecun management area. In 1965, it was renamed Zhaitan people's office. The reform committee of Zhaitan commune was established in 1968. In 1981, it was changed to Zhaitan Management Committee. In 1984, it was renamed Zhaitan township government. It was renamed Zhaitan Township in 1985. administrative villages and population distribution: the township governs 14 administrative villages, 36 natural villages, 143 villager groups, 2828 households, with a total population of 8541 people, including 63 non-agricultural people.
