Idiom story
[story]: in ancient times, there was a mountain standing in the rapids of the Yellow River at the narrow part of the Sanmenxia channel, which affected the flow of the river. Dayu widened the channels on both sides when he controlled the river, so that the pillar mountain stood like a pillar in the rapids. Sanmenxia is divided into human gate, God gate and ghost gate, among which ghost gate is the most dangerous, while the mainstay stands in the torrent.
"Yanzi Chunqiu · neipianjian Xia" says, "I try to help the river from the king, and the turtle takes the title of Zuoyu to enter the middle stream of the mainstay." The mainstay lies in the torrent below the Sanmenxia Dam. The boatman on the Yellow River, also known as "towards me", is about 30 kilometers away from the city. In winter, when the water is shallow, it is more than two feet above the surface of the water; in flood season, it only shows a spire, which looks as if it is immediately engulfed by the flood. For thousands of years, no matter the storm or the storm, it has been standing firmly in the Yellow River, like a lion, strong and fearless. It has been regarded as a symbol of the spirit of the Chinese nation since ancient times. In 638 ad, Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, came here and wrote the poem "looking up at the mainstay, looking at the dragon's gate in the north; vast traces of Yu, vast Changchun". He ordered Wei zhengle, Minister of the Tang Dynasty, to be in the shadow of the mainstay. Liu Gongquan, a famous calligrapher, also wrote a long poem for it, in which there is "a solitary peak floating on the water, a nail in the heart of a wave.". Against the three risks, the roots are even nine deep. The column and sky are abrupt, and the waves are floating and sinking.
It is said that the mainstay is the stone pillar of Zhenhe river left by Dayu during the flood control, and it is also the incarnation of an old boatman of the Yellow River. A long time ago, an old boatman led several cargo ships to the downstream. When they arrived at the mouth of the Shenmen River, the weather suddenly changed, the wind continued and the rain poured down. In a flash, the white waves in the canyon were surging and the fog was rising. The water potential and direction could not be seen clearly. The old boatman sailed through Shenmen, and saw that the boat would be pushed to the rock by the wind and waves. The old boatman yelled, "take the helm and come to me.". He jumped into the waves. The boatmen couldn't figure out what was going on, so they heard someone shouting "come to me, come to me." it turned out that the old boatman was standing in the torrent to guide the boat. The boatman came up to him and was about to pull him on board. A wave pushed the boat downstream and out of danger. The boatman tied up the boat downstream and went back to find the old boatman. He turned into a stone island and stood up in the torrent to guide the passing ships. Therefore, people call this stone island "mainstay" also "come to me".
Since then, the mainstay has become a navigation mark in the canyon. After passing the three gates, the ship will rush straight towards the mainstay. When the ship was about to collide with the mainstay, the backwater of the waves in front of the mainstay just pushed the ship to the safe channel nearby, avoided the Mingdao reef and drove out of the canyon smoothly.

Niyang River Canyon
The mainstay is located in the middle reaches of Niyang River on Chuanzang Road, with high mountains, deep gullies and fast flowing rivers. It is the largest canyon of Niyang River. A huge stone stands in the river with its back against shenfoshan. It is said that this huge stone is the seat of gongzundemu, the patron saint of Gongbu area.
At the confluence of the two rivers, there is a huge stone protruding in the middle of the river, about 100 feet high. Only this huge stone can play the role of mainstay and turn the tide around when it is about to fall. Cai Chao, a counsellor of the Ming Dynasty, built a pavilion on this huge stone, named it "kuaao" pavilion, and inscribed it with the word "mainstay".
Tongyan kuaao pavilion was built in Zhengde period of Ming Dynasty. In the 49th year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi, two new pavilions, the upper and lower pavilions, were built in bosuji county. They were renamed XIAOJINSHAN, and were inscribed with the words "two pavilions dangling in the sea of clouds, a pillar of wind and waves" between the cliffs.
