Idiom story
In Tang Dynasty, Zhang Guangsheng was born in Zhouzhi, Beijing, and was a cavalry soldier at first. During the rebellion in Anlu mountain, Ge Shuhan, a famous general of the imperial court, was defeated in Tongguan, and Wang Sili, a great general under the account, was killed by Liu Ya on his horse. In the cavalry, Zhang Guangsheng saddled his horse to Wang Sili. Si Li got out of danger safely, and later he became an official governor of Hedong. He thought that he could be today thanks to Zhang Guangsheng's help, so he managed to find Zhang Guangsheng and make a brother with him. He also promoted him to be a "military envoy" and entrusted him with a confidant. He repeatedly invited the imperial court to appoint him as "Taichang Shaoqing". In this way, Zhang Guangsheng became more and more powerful. In 783, an army from Jingyuan to the front line mutinied in Chang'an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty, and Dezong fled from Fengtian (now Qianxian County, Shaanxi Province). Zhang Guangsheng attached himself to Zhu and became a governor. Zhu Jian's name was Daqin, and he called himself Emperor of Daqin. He led the troops to Fengtian, with Zhang Guangsheng as his deputy general. Unexpectedly, the march was not smooth and met with resolute resistance from general Hun Jian of Tang Dynasty. After more than a month's siege, he failed to conquer the city. Dezong sent envoys to Fengtian in all directions to be in a hurry. At that time, all kinds of King's soldiers rushed to Fengtian one after another. Zhu Zhen stepped up his siege, but he was secretly cut out of the city and set on fire outside the city. He burned the tower ladders and other siege equipment, and suffered great losses. Zhu found out that Dezong had summoned Li Sheng, Shang Ke Gu, Li Huai Guang, Ma Sui and other troops to rescue Fengtian, so he had to withdraw all night and take Zhang Guang Sheng back to Chang'an. In the second year, Zhu changed the name of the state to Han. He became emperor of the Han and Yuan Dynasties and appointed Zhang Guangsheng as prime minister. At this time, Li Sheng, Hun Jian and other Tang generals moved east and West together, and they had stationed troops in Chang'an, and they had defeated Zhu's rebels. Zhu selected 5000 elite soldiers and sent them to Zhang Guangsheng for garrison in Jiuqu. Jiuqu is only ten li away from the Dongwei bridge where Zhang Guangsheng stationed his troops. Seeing that Zhu's situation was over, Zhang Guangsheng secretly sent his confidants to contact Li Sheng and expressed his willingness to surrender to the imperial court. Li Sheng welcomed Zhang Guangsheng to surrender. At the same time, he attacked Chang'an and broke into baihuamen. Zhang Guangsheng advised Zhu not to rush to Jingzhou as soon as possible. More than ten thousand people led by Zhu Pei were escorted out of the city by Zhang Guangsheng. After seeing Zhu off, Zhang Guangsheng turned around and led Yu Zhong to surrender to Li Sheng. Li Sheng promised to go to the imperial court for him, and asked for a remission. Zhang Guangsheng was so grateful that he repeatedly kowtowed. Every time Li Sheng held a banquet, he invited Zhang Guangsheng to attend and treated him like a guest of honor. Many colleagues were very unhappy about this. Lu Yuanguang, the governor of Huazhou, even broke out in public. He pointed to Zhang Guangsheng's nose and said, "I can't sit with the anti thief!" After that, I went back to camp. the whole house broke up in discord. Li Sheng had no choice but to put Zhang Guangsheng under house arrest and wait for the imperial court. Soon after, Dezong issued an imperial edict that Zhang Guangsheng should be executed for his unforgivable crime. Unable to recover, Li Sheng ordered Zhang Guangsheng to be beheaded. On his deathbed, Zhang Guangsheng sighed and said, "posterity: first, don't write, second, don't rest." It means: unless you don't do it, just do it to the end. The idiom "one does not do, two endlessly" is transformed from "the first do not do, the second do not rest".
