Idiom story
Li Cheng, whose name is Xianxi, was born in Chang'an. It was originally the royal family of the Tang Dynasty, and it was also called liyingqiu because it avoided chaos in Yingqiu of Shandong Province during the Five Dynasties. Li Cheng is highly learned and upright, but he is frustrated in his official career. He places his affection on the mountains and rivers and takes a non intimate attitude towards the powerful. Once a prominent figure surnamed sun asked for a painting, but Li Cheng flatly refused. The man could only get his painting by other means. When Li Cheng saw his painting hanging in his home, he immediately left angrily. At that time, it was regarded as the performance of noble personality by literati.
Li Cheng's landscape paintings come from Jing Hao and Guan Tong. The theme of the landscape is very broad: the mountains and forests in the painting are plain and dangerous, the glory belt is winding, the flying flow, the dangerous stack, the broken bridge, the juejian, the water and stone, the wind and snow are dim, and the clouds and snow are in the sky. Li Cheng especially likes snow scenery and cold forest, and people even call him Li Hanlin. Li Cheng's paintings of ancient trees and cold forests are tough and thin, and their twigs are vigorous and powerful. They are almost like the dancing of generals, and they have the spirit of clank. There are not many rocks in his paintings, and the mountains seem to be moving. The weather is sparse and the smoke forest is clear. His paintings are not heavy in ink, light as in the smoke, and appear ethereal and quiet, so Li Cheng has the reputation of cherishing ink like gold.
